I think that is known as the Wayne Gretzky corollary
Precisely.
Or the counter argument that Scotty Bowman was a terrible hockey player.

I can't think of a modern NHL owner who could come close to this kind of douchebaggery.
taking the racism element out of the equation, how about an nhl owner who goes to visit a player to tell him he is their guy and more importantly take off his shirt to show the player the new tattoo of the name of his new young girlfriend

Do we really know this guy is a racist? Maybe his words were taken out of context?

They hacked his twitter account.
But it was a phone conversation.
Doesn't matter, these guys are clever.
LOL I was kidding
I was more talking about that point like 10 years ago where there were nearly 250 combined head coaching jobs at I-A colleges and in the NFL and less than a half dozen of those coaches were black in a sport where black athletes have a slight majority. The Rooney Rule came along and today there are a few dozen black head coaches in the pro and college ranks, some of whom have won titles or put teams in the top 25.
You have one owner (in Sterling) who is clearly an asshole/racist, but the NBA has far more minority representation in ownership and at executive/coaching positions than any other pro sports league. And I'm not saying that is good/bad or trying to be political, it just follows suit that in sports where the majority of the athletes are of a certain race, you'd expect that they would represent organizational leadership roles in similar proportions. And you see that in the NBA, less so in the NFL. So to attribute the values of one owner to a league with a proven track record of minority ownership/leadership seems unfair. That's all.
Wow, that would really be something to see if they go for the nuclear option.

What I'm expecting today, Part 2: NBA Players Assoc. demands July free agency for all Clipper players unless NBA sells Clippers ASAP.

People are waaaaaaaay off on value of Clips franchise. All kinds of deep pockets circling this Sterling fiasco. Team will fetch $1.5b easy.

3. Stealth asset NBA has going for it: Sponsors dropping out + local TV deal going away + players/coaches/fans vowing to leave or stay away.

2. Only problem - Sterling loves courtrooms, he has no shame, he's not self-aware, he's comically stubborn + he might just decide to fight.

1. Hearing Adam Silver is dropping the nukes on Donald Sterling today. Everything short of a big mushroom cloud shaped like the NBA logo.
1.5 billion franchise valuation on the clippers doesnt seem at all reasonable
if someone pays that (dont do it Magic!) ... Sterling wins ... what did he pay for it ... $15 shmill?
I especially like the bolded one. If they can't get anyone to sign back there, what do they do? That's a really sound penalty.
