Typical US infrastructure work. Take forever and make it obsolete before it ever opens. How can it take 20 years to build a train station?
In highways defence the Big Dig also took Boston 20 years.Typical US infrastructure work. Take forever and make it obsolete before it ever opens.
Sadly this is with most any mass transit project. But if you want a new highway/bypass for cars. Voila no hesitation at all.
Geography didn't help that situation. Also more along the lines of in the US if you want new roads for cars, sure have it. But anything that promotes mass transit takes major red tape, political scrutiny and more often than not have to get voters to approve. In highways defence the Big Dig also took Boston 20 years.
The thing with building transit is it’s disruptive and rather than not giving a shit and just piling through like they did back in the day governments spend a shit ton of money trying to accommodate everybody.Geography didn't help that situation. I am not saying the highway projects get done quickly just mentioning they have a lot less red tape so they get started quicker.
This scenario for this change is just insane.
I thought the 8 years to update the Little Five Points stating in Atlanta's MARTA was crazy. NOTE: The station was closed from 2022 -2026, it is still able to be used for transfers only.
I dont know a lot about it either, but I think we can at least all be happy they did a good job and that it's not leaking or anything. The thing with building transit is it’s disruptive and rather than not giving a shit and just piling through like they did back in the day governments spend a shit ton of money trying to accommodate everybody.
Then because apparently we either suck at keeping schedules or suck at making them everything goes beyond the expected duration and drives everyone insane.
Won’t lie, I know very little about the West Station plan in Boston but I’m almost positive if they were just focusing on the build part instead of a bunch of other things they could get it done in half that time.
Only two chunks of concrete have fallen on cars.I dont know a lot about it either, but I think we can at least all be happy they did a good job and that it's not leaking or anything.
Only two? That's not bad.Only two chunks of concrete have fallen on cars.
Unlike Toronto where the Gardiner poops some cement on a daily basis on unsuspecting Mini Coopers.
One of the worst days of my life was sitting in that tunnel for 45 minutes because of an accident ahead of us.Only two? That's not bad.
If I go into my office, depending on traffic, I usually drive through the older of Baltimore's two tunnels. It's just decrepit, dark, and looks hundreds of years old. Now if occasionally a chunk of concrete would fall, or fresh clean water from the Patapsco River above would sometimes start leaking in; then it would be an adventure tunnel! I'd be happy to pay my $3 for an adventure commute.
Dont forget the scrapes on the ceiling. At the entrances I at least understand the scrapes, but in the middle? One of the worst days of my life was sitting in that tunnel for 45 minutes because of an accident ahead of us.
You think those tiles look awful when driving? So much worse when stopped. Like an inch thick layer of grime and mystery moisture.
I mean at least a drunk sailor can’t crash into a tunnel.Only two? That's not bad.
