Did Danielle Smith really cut 10s of millions of dollars from the wildfire response program?
UCP in general did.

Worth noting though that Jasper is federal land and Parks Canada has primary responsibility, although their first act would probably be to ask Alberta for help.

So, not great but a lot is probably going to be discussed about forest management around the townsite by the Feds and how much a role that is playing on what’s happening now.

what i had read was fire management were provincial responsibility, and federal is not to get involved until formally asked.

Cousin in Valemont and her daughter evacuated. Fire came so fast that they had no time for anything but to grab their wallets.

From their website it seems like it’s theirs:

“Parks Canada’s national fire management program is committed to the protection of communities while also restoring fire to the landscape for ecosystem health. Many parks across the country have dedicated fire personnel who are ready to respond to wildfires. Resources such as helicopters are placed on standby when the fire danger rating is high. Readiness and response guidelines are defined by each park’s Fire Management Plans.

We are ready to respond.”

But again this probably isn’t something they just sit around on waiting for someone to nudge them, there’s definitely interagency cooperation.

Management and fuel control is definitely something they’re on the hook for thought.

We had a brainstorming session earlier and I think I f'ed things up. We were supposed to state an idea we had that would make the workplace less stressful and function better. When they came to me I froze. Then I thought about the last time I was at one of our other locations and they had therapy dogs. Done already. Can't use that. I froze again. Heather the shapely administrative assistant taking minutes was just glaring at me with a hint of amusement. Looking at her and thinking of the other location it just popped out, I didn't mean for it to but it did.
"Therapy girls," I said.
When asked to explain, not realizing they were being sarcastic I answered, "Well you know if you're having a bad day maybe once or twice a day they could walk the therapy girls around and we could say hello for a minute, maybe get a quick hug."
I think the part that really got me was when my boss sarcastically asked if the girls would be led around by leashes and I seemed to think about it too long before saying, "No?".
There goes my free Sunday.

Elect incompetent people, don't expect good decisions. I thought Kinney was bad but Smith is terrible.
was reading how Jasper city council elected not to take down trees around the city to build a fire break (unlike Banff which did) because they didnt want the city to "feel too open" even though all the trees that were proposed to be taken out were dead from pine beetle kill :L

America = 'Murica
Alberta = 'Burta

same troglodytes on both sides of the border.

There are plenty of good things about Alberta, but the current political climate and associated brain worms infecting a whole bunch of people is not one of them.
