Finally watched the BMX Quarterfinals last night. Some big upsets in there. Reigning world champ Joris Daudet, his fellow countryman (and human battering ram) Amidou Mir as well as reigning Olympic Champion Maris Strombergs (the Latvian Locomotive) all failed to advance thanks to crashes.

Great Britain also failed to get either of their two riders into the Semifinal after Kyle Evans had some bad luck and Liam Phillips went down after a surgical low-in/high out move by Tory Nyhaug got Philips wrapped up in a wreck where he took a knee to the face. Now they are going back to England as the only cyclists who didn't win anything. Poor blokes. (not really)

Nyhaug should have had three wins, but finished second in his third run, which effectively eliminated second place qualifier David Graf. Not sure if calculated, but brilliant if it was.

That leaves the three favorites for "men on kids bikes" medals as Tory Nyhaug, Sam Willoughby and Nic Long.

I don't think anyone left can touch Sam.

Did anyone see that Kenyan female running in the 800m semis?

may not be PC but what is with the womens 800m? I saw at least 3 participants in the heats that I feel could be classified similarly (visually) to Caster Semenya (ie hyperandrogenism)

I mean ... why even race when some competitors have a natural (and allowed) advantage

Race walking is goofy, but a Canadian is currently leading the pack.

Heck of an effort by Dunfee, still don't like the way that Japanese guy made contact with him when it wasn't needed, it broke his stride and he couldn't recover.

/Yes, Evan Dunfee is not Matthew Wilder.

Also, how about the British? Second in medals and 21 golds. For such a small country, that's a stunning accomplishment. What's in the shepherd's pie over there?!? ;)

Her majesty must be pleased by all her present and former subjects.

Canada has filed a protest on behalf of Evan Dunfee regarding that Japanese dude making contact with him from behind on the 50K walk. I say disqualify the Japanese dude and award Canada BRONZE!!
