We're off to penalty kicks - I'm curious if the Brazilian keeper will be allowed to take 2 to 3 steps forward off her line like she did last game?

I don't even think that challenge was necessary, the angle was pretty tough for the German player and you have to know the slightest bit of contact will result in the player going down and the ref caling a penalty.

Too bad, but it's tough to beat a team twice in the same tourney.

Canada with lots of chances but no finish.

And yeah, that penalty was unnecessary. Never slide in the box unless you're preventing a clear chance. Learning process for a young player I guess.

As a degenerate, the live odd for seeing German tears seem intriguing.

Well, 2-0 is definitely the safest lead in soccer...

Seems like the only person blaming Cavendish is Cavendish. Even the guy who won gold says it wasn't Mark's fault.

Mark Cavendish: Omnium crash was my fault - CNN.com

I watched almost all of the track cycling so far and it looks like the general expectation is that when someone peels off the pack, they are expected to go up behind anyone who is already up there, unless they are already past when they peel off. The Korean guy peeled off, and then looked like he was going to try and pass on the banking. Seems to me like that's a no-no.

If it was the Italian guy he hit directly, I would expect it was on purpose because those two banged on each other for the last three sprints. At one point Viviani looked like was trying to get the outside of his hand on the bars of the Australian guy. It'd a dirty sport. Part of the reason I want to try it so bad.

Earlier in the week in a women's race, a rider from Hong Kong got completely elbowed off her bike and slid about 30 feet on her face.

I saw a lot of outrage on twitter, but I don't know how many of them are familiar with the Omnium rules. I honestly don't know them at all - I was just applying the general concept of "racing lines" from sports like F1, in which case it looked like Cavendish initiated a dangerous crash on a rival who had the line.

But I fully accept that Omnium might have different "lines" and that this type of thing is expected.
