I prefer both Irvin and Wells as middle and long relievers. A spot start here and there would be okay but not for the long term.

And on point, Irvin throws a gem. Should we get ready for 3 more terrible outings? I hope to see Suarez once more. Good win today! (14-7)

Suarez has been pitching good so far. But the bullpen is becoming more and more concerning.

is that his third or fourth blown save?

The whole bullpen has been mediocre.

I think it’s his third. Looks like he’s day to day right now. Apparently, he was having issues before he let up the two run shot. Should’ve just yanked him then as a precautionary measure and let Tate finish the inning, especially if they knew they were sending him down to Norfolk the following day anyways.

Yup.

I dont feel as though the team is being managed as well as they were last year.

Bullpen not great, and relying on unreliable guys.

Hitters not patient: striking out more and also hitting a lot of homers. Not wearing down opponent’s pitchers as much. Not as many deep counts.

Really not sold on the new pitching coach .

Didn't agree with not letting Irvin finish the 7th the other night. I know it didn't ultimately matter but he was having very little problems getting them out.
Agree about the bullpen. They've been struggling a bit this year. Wondering with Means and Braddish back now if maybe some things will change with that.
The thing I've noticed with the hitters is that they're getting a lot of foul popups. Mullins has been struggling ever since he came back from being injured last year. Santander and Hays (when he was playing) has been having issues so far this year as well. Figure they're probably pressing too much and just not trying to focus on the fundamentals.

Need to trade for a closer. Kimbrel is trash this year. Heck, try Suarez in the role. Someone other than this guy.

Of the 16 losses, 10 have been blown saves. Maybe we should be looking for bullpen help?? Losing the opener in the Cards series not a good sign either. This year is not supposed to be about 100 wins but a playoff push.

I dont really understand how they are managing any part of the team, actually.

Bring up Holliday who isnt ready, send him down. same with Kjerstead. Same with Stowers. Whats the plan here?

Have great starting pitching, shitty middle relievers who are inconsistent retreads from other teams while you have plenty of trade chips to improve your relief corps: Santander, Hays, Mounty could all go. Mateo is an interesting trade chip. This is before touching the farm team!

Meanwhile, no hitters are working counts anymore. All or nothing approach at the plate? Why? Rutschman had a fantastic eye last year, and his walks - like everybody on the team - are way down.

Why? More homeruns but never wearing out pitchers?

Bizarre.

Tripped up once again in game 2 vs Cards. Webb & Co struggling in the bullpen. Hyde has struggled with his lineups which are ever changing with guys moving up and down. It seems only certain players work the count extensively while others (Mullins) goes up there swinging away.

I believe they were/should have been "all in" after acquiring Burnes however, Bradish goes down. This team is way too talented to continue letting the bullpen blow games. I have a feeling we will see some relief help sooner than later.

We are into May now and the inconsistencies from several hitters are worrisome. I see Santander as a trade chip at the deadline and possibly Hays from the active roster. From the farm, I see Stowers, Kjerstead & Basallo as trade chips.

Bradish with 7 no hit innings today, 5/26/24. Does that change our direction of help? The bullpen is worrisome at this point. The schedule in June becomes a gauntlet and continues right up to the All-Star Break. We should know who we are by then.

Currently 33-18

I still think we need a starting pitcher. We don’t know how long Means will be out, Wells doesn’t sound like he’s coming back anytime soon and Kremer will be out for a bit. I don’t think Kremer (when he comes back) along with Irvin and Sanchez are long term solutions to the rotation. I don’t think anyone from Norfolk is knocking down the door starting pitching wise either.
Offensively, I think if some of these guys can get back to where they normally are (primarily the outfielders) we’ll be fine on that front.

So you'd trade 2 dudes who are valuable pieces to the offense in Santander and Mountcastle and a guy whosgreat on defense in Mateo for...what again? Santander would probably command maybe a #3 guy in another teams rotation, while the prospects could command a #1 or 2 in another rotation. Dont break up whats working right now. We did that in 2014 and look what happened.

Irvin's been a solid rotation hand though so hes earned his spot for right now.

For right now, I don’t have a problem with him as he’s been good in the role. I just don’t think he’ll be able to keep it up for the next four to five months.
