I think my most memorable Opening Day was April 8, 1978. We played the hated Yankees. Richie Zisk won it for us with a HR in the bottom of the 9th off of Rich Gossage. Earlier that morning play by play announcer Dick Risenhoover passed away after battling cancer.

There's some names remembered. Doesn't seem that long ago.

Seems like I was at another Opening Day win against the Yankees where we won it on a wild pitch.

A great walk-up song is key in a player's approach at the plate or on the rubber...O.K. that may not be true. But it's always fun to jam along with Rangers as they try to get themselves hyped for an at-bat or psyched to take the mound.

For Opening Day, a few of the Rangers gave us an inside peek at which songs will be blaring over the Globe Life Park PA system to introduce the ball-players.

Notibly missing is Mike Napoli. Will he go au naturel and let the Rangers fans serenade him with "Na-Po-Li" chants? Or will he debut a "Party at Napoli's" single? I guess we'll find out.

I'd do Lucroy, Napoli and Odor, 3-4-5 but other than that, I'm content with that

In checking the Opening Day win that involved winning on a wild pitch was 2 years after the other game I referenced. It was in 1980. Once again it was Zisk batting and Gossage pitching in the 12th inning. The Rangers won 1-0 when Mickey Rivers raced home on the wild pitch.

Incredibly, the Rangers won their home openers in walk off fashion in 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1980. Three of those were in extra innings and one was on an inside-the-park HR by Toby Harrah. Oh, and they won in 1979 5-0.
