And now the Isles will end up with a a top 3 lottery spot. I'm guessing they protect this year's 1st rounder from the Sabres. Better hope they don't suffer a rash of injuries next year or the Moulson-Vanek trade could turn into one of the worst in NHL history (McDavid).

Oh ye of little faith, the Oil will win the McDavid draft lottery.

But seriously... the Oil only pick first when there ISN'T a franchise player available. :dhd:

But the beauty of this is that the Oilers take a generational player and find a way to screw his development, in turn, makes him the Alexander Daigle of the 21st century

I honestly believe the Isles will be better next year. Tavares, Nielsen, Nelson, Strome & Cizikas at Center. The defense should be bolstered by Griffen Reinhart & possibly Ryan Pulock. They'll add Ville Pokka & Adam Pelech to the system. Garth needs to find a goalie, whether it's by trade or UFA it's should be the #1 priority.

After all these years, to expect Garth Snow to find a competent goaltender is something I wouldn't be waiting for - after all, he wasn't very competent as a goalie himself

Snow could trade MacDonald for Malcolm Subban and a pick :)

They definitely should be better next. Of course I thought they'd be quite a bit better than they are this year. I think they bounce back a bit next year though. However you just never know what bad luck might befall a team. Makes next year a risky proposition. I still would take the high pick they'll get this year. They'll still get a good player and he'll be one year closer to his prime than if they picked next year.

It really depends on what Snow does with the goaltending. He failed miserably during last offseason to acquire a goalie. Resigning Nabby was what he was left with. If the goaltending isn't addressed they're going to be a bottom 5 team no doubt about it.

Maybe the correct way to say it is "even when a franchise player is available, they don't pick him first."

The Free Agent goalie market is pretty solid this year, but the question is who will sign there?

I have a bad feeling (for you at least) that your goalie next year is Timmay.

I have a feeling Timmay would rather retire than play for the Islanders.
