Erik Karlsson passed Drew Doughty for career points this week despite having played 132 less games. I thought this was pretty impressive. This got me thinking about how good the 2008 draft was for defensemen. Doughty, Pietrangelo, Bogosian, Karlsson, Del Zotto, Carlson, Hamonic, etc.

I decided to look up the stats for that draft year and I saw that Karlsson was second in points among that whole draft class. Once again I thought this was really impressive.

Then I looked at the guy who has the most points from that draft. Steven Stamkos has scored more GOALS than any player in his draft year has points. Flat out amazing. Would have been nice to have on Team Canada this year for sure.

Here's another interesting stat from the 2008 draft class. I looked at my Hockey News draft issue from that year & they had Karlsson rated 71st. Me thinks they missed on that one.:

Schneider is 7-2-4, 1.43 GAA, .945 S%. The Devils PK has quietly become the best in the league. 12th in PP% is pretty solid, if they could just get a scoring winger they'd be one of the better teams in the league. Instead they are out of the playoffs. That fucker Kovy is the exact player they need in the lineup. Guy completely fucked them.

Well, if they had Kovy, they might not have had a few of those other guys(not saying they're better than Kovy) - Kovy probably makes them a little better but I think they need more than one player offensively
