You think Mike Gillis wants a do-over on those 4 year extensions he gave the Sedins at the start of this season?

yup ... he should have waited ... but i think if he improves the depth (how? i dont know lol) then the sedins (and kesler) wouldnt have to play these unsustainable minutes ... theyre dead (well daniel is lol)

If he can somehow move Edler and get some depth at forward that might be an option

Or, they'll have to wait for Bo Horvat and Hunter Shinkaruk to develop and then those guys can be the depth their looking for, but it may be too late

Or all the NTC's he gave out to those guys?

its a tradeoff ... a risky one

many made the remarks when each one of those players was signed and Gillis got the kudos

"how did Gillis do it ... How did he get these guys to sign for below market value? (at that time)"

NTC's ... theres your answer :noidea:

now its coming back to bite him in the ass

It's a triple whammy for the Canucks this year:

- Too many minutes for the top guys
- Compressed schedule
- Tough travel (that one isn't going to change)

Yeah I hear that all the time, how people praise a GM when he's able to lock up the player before he hits FA, but sometimes you have to play hardball and wait to get what you really want

Honestly though, I think the issue with the Canucks isn't necessarily their team but more so the fact that the teams in the West have gotten ridiculously better in a matter of two years - when the Kings won the Cup in 2012, the Blackhawks weren't that dominant that season, Ducks didn't even make the playoffs, San Jose was a bottom playoff team and teams like Colorado were out of the playoffs too - Vancouver was the best team in the regular season that year, so it goes to show you, the other teams have gotten a lot better and it's not that Vancouver has gotten a lot worse on their own, they just haven't been able to keep up with those other teams

EDIT: I feel like the Kings are going through a semi-similar situation, they haven't dominated this season because there are so many better teams in the West now

the issue is totally their team ... sure the other teams have gotten better ... so what ... WHERE ARE THE CANUCKS DRAFT PICKS???

There is a total void of young skilled talent currently on the big team ... yah Horvat and Shinkaruk ... but they were from the same draft ... and it was last year!!!!

what about 2012, 2011, 2010 ... bad drafting especially in 2012 where they decided to draft overage guys who went undrafted in their first eligible year

just look at the shitshow in Utica ... they cant score there either ... huge shitshow!

If they hadn't traded Cody Hodgson for Zack Kassian they would have had more young talent on that team - they had it and they've traded it away to get tougher because they listen to all the people who talked about how the Canucks were soft as shit

doesnt matter. there was no way Hodgdson wanted to be here. and Cody was one guy and while hes a decent player he is no stud that is going to save this franchise. to be honest I would rather take the chance on Kassian and what he has shown flashes of. I just think he needs some form of mentor. its more than that for our drafting

no no no ... thats just one guy who didnt want to be here and Kass has a chance to be the guy we need

he was the only guy producing scoring chances in that 3rd period last night ... he needs more ice time imo

Looking back at it, it has been bad drafting, but not just the last three years

Also, they traded Kevin Connauton to get Derek Roy and that was a steaming pile too

They also let Michael Grabner go too, and they could have kept Mason Raymond too - imagine if they had those two guys, that would have been more depth for them

Their last good draft was 2004(Schneider, Edler and Hansen)

Patrick White over David Perron in 2007 stings.

/Flames could have taken Perron as well, but chose Mikael Backlund instead - Nice to see Backs having a pretty good year, he'll never put up the offensive numbers that Perron does though.

Kevin Connauton wasnt gonna crack the top 6 on d for this team with the way it was constructed ... the issue was Derek Roy coming to the canucks and them not realizing he was out of shape ... they whiffed on the player they took back

Grabner was waived by the Florida Panthers ... he has 9 goals this year ... he is not the type of player that gets you to a stanley cup

and on MAYRAY .... FUCK NO!!!

the issue isnt the guys they gave up ... its not that they should have kept them because they showed in their time here that they werent the players that would take us to the cup ... its that they werent replaced by better players ... thats the ultimate failing

Im not gonna exactly shred Patrick White (lol) only because it brought us Ehrhoff and a trip to the finals

I think Don Taylor said the other day that Pat White is playing in the Slovakian B league this year and hockeydb cant even get those stats lol

what the fuck was Dave Nonis thinking there???

David Peron comes into Vancouver with Lewiston at the Mem Cup in his draft year ... lights it up ... and they draft Pat White ??? they would have been better off drafting the old West Virginia QB Pat White

Is there some kinda shield or forcefield that prevents Canucks scouts from entering the Pacific Coliseum?

/ iguess i can rip on that draft pick afterall :noidea:

That was a pretty weak draft year.

You know it's bad when 6 years later there are multiple 1st rounders playing in the Austrian and German leagues.

Todd Richards gets out his lineup dartboard again.

UPDATE (11:15 AM): Here are the Jackets' forward lines and defense pairs for tonight's game vs. the Capitals...

Foligno - Anisimov - Umberger
Jenner - Johansen - Horton
Calvert - Dubinsky - Atkinson
MacKenzie - Letestu - Tropp

Tyutin - Johnson
Murray - Wisniewski
Nikitin - Goloubef

Bobrovsky

Foligno and Johansen can find each other with passes through walls, and he splits them up.

If you want to get Anisimov away from Horton, fine. He should have just swapped Horton and Umberger. Not Johansen and Anisimov. With Anisimov and Umberger on the same line they will be at center ice trying to catch up while Nicky is trying to go around four defenders.

At least they put Tropp back in.

I will be at the game tonight, so I will be sure to throw popcorn at Richards.

Who wouldn't want to get away from Horton. The guy just seems so douchey.
