Every competent Pens fan who actually listens to the broadcast hates Steiggy. Errey is actually good at his job for the most part, but Steiggy brings him down often, making them both look terribly incompetent and idiotic. He's messed up players for the past few games...which is part of the reason Lange was put on the radio. "He's too old to keep up with it!" (even though radio games are harder to call of course). Tonight he called James Neal, Kris Letang. Numbers are similar (ending in 8), but nothing else is. The way they skate, stature, position, etc. He hasn't been correcting himself either. On the Island he screamed SUTTER on Malkin's goal. "James Neal, Sutter, MALKIN SCORES!" Sutter wasn't near the ice. No one that terrible at their job should still have their job.

EDIT: What I hate the most is his lack of professionalism. That's not just homerism or treating another team with any semblance of respect, but treating your job...like your job. He's like a fan out there, and his interactions with the players often show it. The dude takes pictures with the guys on his phone like a 13 year old girl just meeting them. Come on man.
All this just for Fox Sports (now ROOT) to save a buck on PBP announcer. I am still as livid as I was back when Lange's contract was not renewed.

Lange was annoying as hell. And he has spawned imitators. We have one on the radio in Columbus, Bob McElligott.

Ryan Johansen scored last week and he actually said "Flapjacks on a ferris wheel!"

I would punch him in the nuts with bullets if I could.

Actually, you know what? He's probably cheap and you Pens fans like that stuff. This seems a good solution. Take him. Please.

Lange's sayings aside, he calls a good game and is a HOF announcer.

Flapjacks on a ferris wheel? That makes no sense. Who would like that?

I'm amused by site owners who post links to "hockey related" stories that are essentially troll articles to drive traffic and generate revenue for themselves. Hey, it's their site and they can put up links to whatever articles they desire, I just think the overall credibility of the site takes a hit though.

Not the kind of person who would hunt moose on a Harley, or scratch their back with a hacksaw... that's for sure.

That's what drove me nuts about Lange. He kept up game pace well, and got where the game was going. He didn't need to derp out about his butcher's dog or fast lane bingo.

Blue Jacket fans.

No, he's widely reviled and there is a petition to get him relegated to pre-game show host until his contract is expired.

I mean, we're not Penguins fans. We don't care who sells who's monkey.

Of course those are going to drive opposing fans nuts, since they are only used after a Penguin goal. Just a little salt in the wound. :)

His list of sayings has grown over the years, and have been overdone and watered down as of late. Back in the 80s/90s was better when it was just a handful of classics such as "he should get 5 to 10 for that save" or "didn't know whether to cry or wind his watch", "turkey's on the table" (start of a PP), etc. There were no bingos or slapping silly.

What I find amazing is he hasn't lost his touch in accurately keeping with the flow, tension and excitement of the game after many decades of doing it.

That's hard to believe when you watch a game between the Pens & BJ's @ Columbus.

Half of that is people who left Pittsburgh when all the jobs disappeared, the rest are people who drive over for decent food and a nice arena.

All of them are fans who yearn for a decent team to cheer for.
