It's fantastic to hear Steigerwald tell me how Ray Whitney was a former Coyote or former Hurricance, because ya know it's a Dallas/Pittsburgh game and that information is cruicial. Real great 'back of hockey card' announcing.

And the fact that the dude has and still confuses Crosby for Adams blows my mind. The other night during the Islanders game HE CONFUSED KYLE OKPOSO AND JOHN TAVARES.

How many times does a shot go wide on Fleury, but he 'gets a piece of it'? How many times does an opposing goalie 'get a piece' of the puck, but Steiggy says James Neal missed? It's absurd.

How about at around 12:00 of the 3rd period against Dallas, Maatta fired one off of the back wall, it bounces out never touching the ice, two feet in the air, and Sid whacks it off his back hand onto the goal for a shot on goal. Did Steiggy mention it? No. He was jacking off about Deryk Engelland being a former Devil. Did ROOT catch it? No. They were showing some Rich Peverly breathing heavy on the bench or some bullshit.

This rant isn't even going to touch on his blatant homerism.

I want this guys job security, because apparently ROOT doesn't hire based off of skill, but rather hire based off of if your alliteration/punning nick names of people tickle Bob Errey's drunk ball sack enough.

Question, what terms would you give Zuccarello after the year he is having thus far?

Interested to see what fans of other teams think.

Hmm, probably a 6 year deal worth somewhere between $4.5 million & $5 million per year, so about $27 million to $30 million. Somewhere around there.

I might be overrating the guy, but I really do believe he's been the Rangers' MVP this season. With Nash struggling at the beginning of this season, Zuccarello really provided the spark to turn the season around for the team. If the Rangers don't re-sign Callahan, I would make Zuccarello the captain next season.

Hmmm, a bit much for my liking. Was thinking 3-4 years around 3.5-4M per. Can't see Sather throwing 5M at him, but I know he will do his best to keep him here.

I think Cally will be re-signed and I agree that he's been our best forward all season long. Nash is coming around now though, 11 goals in 11 games, he just keeps finding the back of the net.

I say 4 years for $4 million would be optimal for the Rangers, but he deserves to get paid for the type of season he's been putting together, plus he's only 26.

I think Callahan will be re-signed as well. Just wanted to say that the type of season Zuccarello is putting together, he deserves captain considerations, if that were to become vacant.

If it were to become vacant, think McaTruck would be the one to take over as Captain. Wouldn't mind Zucc though, but ultimately see Cally staying.

Yikes, the Jackets snatched defeat from the jaws of victory tonight. That could be a costly two points they frittered away in Carolina (heck of a comeback by the Canes though).

Plenty of comments like this on the blog entry...

Every competent Pens fan who actually listens to the broadcast hates Steiggy. Errey is actually good at his job for the most part, but Steiggy brings him down often, making them both look terribly incompetent and idiotic. He's messed up players for the past few games...which is part of the reason Lange was put on the radio. "He's too old to keep up with it!" (even though radio games are harder to call of course). Tonight he called James Neal, Kris Letang. Numbers are similar (ending in 8), but nothing else is. The way they skate, stature, position, etc. He hasn't been correcting himself either. On the Island he screamed SUTTER on Malkin's goal. "James Neal, Sutter, MALKIN SCORES!" Sutter wasn't near the ice. No one that terrible at their job should still have their job.

EDIT: What I hate the most is his lack of professionalism. That's not just homerism or treating another team with any semblance of respect, but treating your job...like your job. He's like a fan out there, and his interactions with the players often show it. The dude takes pictures with the guys on his phone like a 13 year old girl just meeting them. Come on man.

Steiggy should have been canned the day after he made that terrible Hobey Baker joke during a Pens game.

While some announcers have "best of" compilations, Steiggy has "worst of". The moments that test you as a professional, in any field mind you, are the worst. It's alllll about how you handle adversity. In those moments, Steiggy says things like "When you're one of the worst teams in hockey and an embarrassment to the National Hockey League, I guess nothing really matters at this point." There's also how you handle some of the best moments. Do you do it with dignity and humility? Or do you become an insufferable homer who continually strokes your team's ego? Yeah...good job Steiggy.

Still painful to watch to this day. He starts laughing...and Bob is just silent. So he says "You shouldn't laugh about how he left us...*giggles*"

Also of note: Paul may not even be the worst Steigerwald in town.

Is Paul the one eating a box of popcorn during the intro to Against the Odds?
