Sounds like SJ essentially saying they believe they've got 3 years left in their "window" to win it all.

the salaries are at the level where, with the cap going up, the sharks will be able to bring in surrounding players to get even better ... with the inflation predicted (cdn$ not withstanding), if their play declines and they become more second line players, their dollars still wont seem crazy

plus they have good young guys coming up currently on elc's ... i think theyre in a good sitch going forward

even though joe is slow ... the mind isnt gonna go (unless Raffi tags him in practice)

Been talking about it for weeks, was inevitable it would happen. Nice contracts for both.

So much for the return of Prospal:

@FriedgeHNIC
That ends that MT @sportsnetmurph After speaking with family, Vinny Prospal has decided to retire and will not sign an AHL PTO with Utica

1/24/14: 1:16PM: Prospal has decided to retire rather than sign a PTO with the AHL Comets. ([ame="http://twitter.com/sportsnetmurph/status/426778934164733953"]Dan Murphy[/ame])

Yeah that was fast.

Many of us hoped he would have been bought out last summer... ugh.

I don't understand how you *don't* buy him out ($5M cap hit, $6M paid), but maybe Dougie Wilson doesn't believe in buyouts/is too nice to use one out of respect for the player or whatever -- which is complete BS, IMO.

The Sharks basically paid Havlat $5M this year to be Hertl's translator/driver earlier in the season. /fail

Because the LAST thing we want to do is move teams from markets that aren't working to ones that will.
