Congrats to Steve, hopefully he'll continue his strong play between the pipes for Philly.

My guess on the Steve Mason extension: 4 years, $18 million

3 years, 12.3 mil. $4.1M average. Not too bad actually, based on his play this year. Of course, if his play drops, that's a different story, but that's true of...well, every contract ever.

I like this contract - he's played well this season - a bit of a drop off the last 3-4 weeks but part of that is the defense hasn't tightened up - if they tighten up it'll be great - even in games where he gives up 3 or more goals(like last game), he makes some big saves and helps the Flyers get at least a point in some of these games

His play has dropped in this season ... Save% of .895 over past 2 months

Really? Oi. I assumed, based on the team's resurgence of sorts, that he was a part of it...considering he was lights out early, but the team in front of him sucked.

People have to realize, the defense has not been that great in front of Steve Mason the last month or so, but he did not give up more than three goals in any start in the first three months he played with the Flyers(April of last season, all of October & November of this season), you have to give him a break - unless you watch the Flyers every night, it's hard to really judge him and say he's struggled the last month - Flyers have been playing too loose defensively and that's why they're giving up more goals - they need to tighten it up - he was the only reason they got a point last game against Nashville, he was stellar - and he was stellar in Vancouver too the game they gave up three goals, he stole two points for the Flyers in that game - made some unbelievable saves that night

EDIT: I think he went his first 30 starts or something like that without giving up more than three goals in a game for the Flyers

Ugh, again, if the Devils managed to win half their shootouts that's another 4 points. Instead they are where they are.

The two wildcards right now are the two teams with the most shootout wins (Toronto and Washington). They rank 12th and 13th in the conference in games won in regulation and OT. You know, hockey wins.

Way to go NHL.

Another test for him. He has to shake the demons of the sharp drop in play and attitude when he got his last contract. I hope he can do it. He's certainly responded to the first test - proving you can keep your head in and play when you are the focal point. Well enough to get a contract.

Good luck Mase.

Gettin' snug in that Wild Card race.

Games. In. Hand. :D

The only problem with this is now all these guys who said before the season that the Metro was the best and most exciting division in hockey are going to look like they knew what they were talking about.

The biggest hotel in Uniondale, L.I. The Marriott which is owned by Islanders owner Charles Wang is going into foreclosure. Chuck bought with hopes of if being a part of his huge project to revitalize the area, which never came to pass. It's going to be very interesting to see how much longer Wang owns the Isles. The people in Brooklyn could be just waiting. I really don't want the guys who own the Nets running the Isles. They seem clueless. It's a bit scary.
