The Oilers have scored two goals on home ice in the last five weeks. Two.

Which is basically the entire season, minus one week

This guy is on a roll...

Last time the #Oilers scored on home ice, Igor Larionov was still playing in the league. Oh man.

Nail says he wants more ice time, so he decided to take matters into his own hands - He had one shift that lasted 1:45 and another than lasted 1:18.

I didn't see it, but reports are that it was a) a bad elbow by Kadri but also b) a flop of Academy Award winning performances by Backstrom.

Haha, bet you aren't saying that after seeing it.

Kadri is probably going to get a set of games. Both running the goalie and the headshot were bad.

Yeah, pretty bad forearm shiver by Kadri and the headshot on Granlund was totally unnecessary. I think the refs tossed Kadri out because they didn't want a donneybrook on their hands (you can tell the Wild players were pissed).

As for suspension length, spin the wheel. I could see Kadri only getting 1 game, but I could also see 3 games.

Report: Pens to grant Botterill permission to talk to LaFontaine about GM post

By Mike Harrington

Pat LaFontaine said yesterday the search to replace Darcy Regier as general manager is on and reiterated that stance this morning during team president Ted Black's weekly radio show on WGR Radio. He's not kidding.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review is reporting the Sabres will be granted permission to talk to Penguins assistant GM Jason Botterill -- a former Sabres player and rising prospect in NHL executive ranks -- about their vacant post.

Botterill, 37, is in his fifth season with the Penguins and is considered an expert with the salary cap. He spent the last three years of his pro hockey career in the Buffalo organization, including 36 games with the Sabres in 2002-03 and 2003-04.

So does the Sheriff punish for dangerous play per game, or per incident?

That's probably worth 2 in itself.

If it's per incident, then will he be considered a repeat offender if the hit on Backstrom nets him a suspension? If so, I believe that would be a new record in attaining repeat offender status.

Buzz: Columbus May Look To Trade Marian Gaborik

According to Aaron Portzline, the Columbus Blue Jackets are frustrated with the lack of production from Marian Gaborik and Portzline thinks that “barring a dramatic change” the Blue Jackets won’t even attempt to re-sign Gaborik and will instead look to trade him around the deadline or sooner.
People in Columbus have grown frustrated with Gaborik.
Portzline writes in the Columbus Dispatch that the “supersonic speed” of Gaborik is missing as his wrist shot and non-power play scoring chances.
Gaborik said that he thinks his game is starting to come around and that he is trying to shoot a lot more.
He has not scored in the last seven games. So far this season, Gaborik is only started 32.1% of his shifts in the offensive zone, compared to last season when he was at 43.8%.
His average shot distance, via Extra Skater, is 30.1 ft this season and was 17.6ft last season

Interesting, they did say they wont committ to a long-term deal unless he proved his worth.

Buzz: Columbus May Look To Trade Marian Gaborik

Okay, bear in mind you are quoting the TwatWaffle and he is about as reliable a source of valid information as a used car salesman.

That said, the challenge was issued to the whole team. Play harder. It's that simple. Since the challenge was issued he has one assist. So it's a strong possibility that he won't be re-signed. I don't know what his deal is. If he just doesn't like it here or what. He seems to put in Marian Gaborik levels of effort (which is often but not always), but he has been surpassed by Cam Atkinson as the most solid winger. That doesn't bode well for a guy in a contract year. With a power forward winger set to be in the lineup in a month.

I don't think a trade will happen for at least a month after Horton comes in. Because they have to figure out how the lines shake out. at this point, Johansen - Atkinson - Dubinski is working so it would be possible the "second" line will become Horton - Jenner - Calvert/Gaborik. A full line that isn't on the ice (or showing up consistently) currently. Horton could take a lot of the defensive pressure away, facing better D at least at first. Gabby needs to find his groove before that, but he could really take off facing lesser D pairings.

If the Rangers want him back, I would be happy to take Nash back.

The hearing is for the hit on Backstrom (which earned Kadri a 2 min penalty) and not for the hit on Granlund (which got Kadri tossed from the game).

Leafs F Kadri to have disciplinary hearing for Backstrom hit

No word that I've seen on phone vs. in-person, but given that it's the day after the incident, I'd guess phone is most likely.

I guess there's nothing to say they couldn't hand him 2 for KO'ing Backstrom and another 4 for the hit on Granlund during an in-person since those would technically be two suspensions of <5 games instead of a 6 game suspension.
