i was high on eakins for the canucks job because i bought into the doom and gloom most were selling about Torts ... lesser evil ... eakins is a big talker ... in hindsight, yah ... he doesnt have the coaching chops and the canucks older players wouldnt have had any type of respect for him or fear of him

the idea floating out there that the canucks brought eakins in for the second interview just because they wanted to pick his brain and find out what kind of coaching system / tactics / philosophy he was gonna use with his new team (which was sure to be a western conference rival ie Dallas or Edmonton) is just fabulously stealth (well not anymore)

Ahh, a three team teaser, I mean three team trade. Canucks send Booth to Edmonton, Oilers sends Eberle to Flyers, Flyers send Laughton to Canucks and Coburn and a 1st round pick (lottery protected) to Oilers.

The Ducks should go after Eberle instead. Give the Oilers Hiller, Noesen & their 1st round pick. They would still have Ottawa's 1st this year from the Ryan trade. Imagine Eberle on a line with Getzlaf & Perry.

I'd like to see the Flyers swing two deals

Dmitry Kulikov and Shawn Matthias for Wayne Simmonds and Braydon Coburn

and

Zach Bogosian or Tobias Enstrom, Paul Postma and a draft pick for the Schenn Brothers

Added: Dmitry Kulikov, Shawn Matthias, Zach Bogosian/Tobias Enstrom, Paul Postma and a pick
Subtracted: Wayne Simmonds, Braydon Coburn, Luke Schenn, Bradyen Schenn

Flyers add three defensemen(subtract two), add one forward(subtract two, call up Jason Akeson or Nick Cousins to replace Wayne Simmonds offense) and gain a draft pick from it

Kimmo Timonen and Andrej Meszaros are off the cap after this season(10 million combined), you replace Braydon Coburn and Luke Schenn with Dmitry Kulikov, Bogo/Toby Enstrom and Paul Postma and then you have 10 million off the cap with Kimmo/Mesz after the season, which gives you flexibility - I wouldn't mind Homer sticking around for the rest of this season if he can make those moves to get d-men - but I wouldn't want him around after the season because I don't want him here with that cap space

If the Flyers are going to make trades, they need to be for d-men - it's hard to trade forwards over and over again, forward groups require more chemistry and there are more forwards than d-men so you need to keep the same group of forwards if you can - Jason Akeson, Nick Cousins, Tye McGinn and eventually Scott Laughton need to get all the opportunities they can get with the Flyers - plus Sam Morin might amount to something 3-4 years down the road with the Flyers on defense - so the key is to get better on defense - the forwards aren't scoring but I'd rather let the young forwards in this system get playing time so that they can gain chemistry

Why would Winnipeg trade Bogosian or Enstrom? I could see them possibly trading Byfuglien though. Kimmo will probably retire & Mesz sucks.

Jets have a plentiful amount of d-men I think they're on the verge of making a trade at some point - they have Jacob Trouba who will be a stud so they might be willing to move Bogo or Toby if they can get help at forward

Maybe not. I get the feeling Darcy is ready to deal. I've heard the price for Miller for the Isles is Ryan Strome. Garth obviously hung up the phone because it didn't happen.
