Oh without a doubt gives the Jackets one less contract. Also from the Penguins side it is protection if/when they put Ruhwedel through waivers after Schultz returns, if (Big IF) gets picked up this is his insurance.

I remember in college one game we had one injured goalie and one away on something school related (no commitment to the game at MIT, Grapes would hate it haha) and so we dressed up a scratched skater in the pads for the warmup to try to keep the other team from running our only goalie.

If the Jackets can land a reliable center with Panarin (and a goalie), then they can package up some guys to go after Stone/Duchene/Skinner, etc.

Not sure Kuraly is a 2C, but he does have twice as many goals as Wennberg.
