Not sure why you'd want him back though, unless it's for the league minimum.

He hasn't been that terrible, kills penalties well and has had bad zone starts. And they've gotta sign someone, since they're not going to bring up two lines worth of Marlies all at the same time (nor should they).

They only have 4 UFA forwards. Even if only Nylander and Marner come up next season that isn't exactly flooding the ranks with youth. I'd rather them find value elsewhere than give it another go with a guy who has 8 even strength points.

I'm surprised that you're assuming (hoping? ) that no one who is under contract for next year will be traded.

Looking at the roster I only see

Lupul
JVR
Bozak
Kadri
Komarov
Winnik
Holland

So there's 6 or 7 more spots. I'm including Froese among the Marlies call-ups because I haven't seen anything this year to suggest that he'll be more equipped to handle the NHL next year than the guys that are down there. But there are a lot of spots to fill even if you include Froese. If Winnik gets dealt (not at all unlikely) that's another spot. And like I said, that's with all of the guys you want to see dealt coming back.

If they don't sign somebody there are going to be a lot of Marlies forced to play much much tougher minutes than you'd like them to while breaking into the league.
