But isn't it all the more impressive a guy like Dale Hunter can put up those offensive numbers while serving all that time in the bin? I'm sure when Shanahan is listed as one of the top 100 his PIM total will be included in his stats.

Did Dale Hunter have low ice time totals as a result of his penalty minutes? We don't have the hard data, but I sort of doubt that was the case.

I would also add that I'm not sure he should be given credit anyway, given that his own actions caused the situation. It might be different if he had limited ice time because of a (bad) coaching decision, but he directly created this for himself.

I wanted to include Tiger Williams for his PIM totals and his stick riding goal celebrations but figured I'd be ridiculed if I mentioned him - so I went with Dale Hunter instead.

I think you definitely have five of the six with Chara being the only questionable one - Lots of chatter that Toews will be one of the six, other names mentioned include Carey Price and Evgeni Malkin.

I'm not saying it's not out there, but I've seen no evidence that penalty minutes track with winning at the team level. So I'm inclined to think that they don't correlate with "winning hockey" on an individual level either.

The real question is whether you'd want to buy a BMW from him or from Max Talbot? All things else being equal of course.

I'd say it's because his totals aren't yet in "legend" territory but if they're actually putting Kane and/or Toews there, well, who the hell knows.
