From what I know from the nerds I still am in contact with, Nazem Kadri is a decent advanced stats player.

I mean, this is entirely hypothetical, but you aren't going to win a cup with 12 Nazem Kadris in your forward corp.

I don't know about winning a cup but I think that 12 Kadris would probably do pretty damn well.

Sorry but what team exactly in Alberta is using analytics with no success? The one that until recently spent a decade hiring firing and re-hiring former players who were clearly in over their heads as executives and couldn't draft a decent second rounder for their lives or the other one that put off a rebuild for 8 years while being generally awful and then atoned for that by hiring the guy who turned the Leafs from a laughing stock into the league's biggest joke as team president?

The one that was an early adopter of the analytics phenomenon and toiled in sub-mediocrity the entire time, that is finally starting to go in the right direction after getting a Top 3 player in the game...which sort of reinforces the point that, you are good...when you have good players.

It's not really about the Crosbys and Kanes though, who rate well by any measure. Or the Bolls and Bolligs, who rate poorly by any measure. The test is always in the creamy middles.

And it's sort of crazy that the winners of recent Cups has guys who are at the top of the scoring race, isn't it?

Can someone fill me in on what's going on here? I get stuck in a snowstorm for a couple hours and shit gets bent sideways up in here.

It's not crazy or odd at all. But I'm not sure what that's supposed to prove or disprove here.

I'd also add that I don't think that Kopitar has actually ever been among the NHL scoring leaders. But he generally looks like a star when looking at the "advanced metrics" (and I'd also say that this matches the "eye test").

Because it's true?
Because they hired Tyler Dellow in 2014 and fired him a year later?

Teams have had staffers proficient in analytics for over a decade now. The Oilers were late to the game and did a fucking brutal job of building any depth whatsoever for a decade.

I have no idea where you're getting the idea that the Edmonton Oilers were pioneers in the advanced statistics department but there is little if any truth to it.

If it's true the good looking people get all the breaks, Cody Eakin is going to get the Raffi Torres treatment for his head shot on Lundqvist.

No Rangers even tried to fuck up Eakin after that?

What a bunch of Sabres!
And if you're the Rangers, you can't go after their goalie as taking him out of the game would benefit the Stars. If I was on the Rags, I'd go after Lindy Ruff.

Peter Holland scores the shootout winner against the Leafs.

Former player coming back to haunt the Leafs? That's a new one.

As soon as you saw him as the 3rd shooter you should have known it was going to happen and been prepared
