on that note ... now that Tallon is "back" in charge ... i could see a Gubberson for McCann trade :ohwell:

Tanev potentially back in the lineup tomorrow night ... Gubberson skating as the extra dman today ... might be healthy scratched :L lol

Looks like less than 5 games for Hoffman. Some angles of the crosscheck suggest that his stick slid up Dillon's stick. Maybe the DOPES took that into consideration. :noidea: It would make more sense given Hoffman's track record. Still reckless, IMO, and he should miss time.

I don't care what the short term cost would have been, but long term dividends told me that they should have cut ties with Letang and paid Niskanen.

Does Letang in French mean Lower Body Injury?

I'm glad that Bob provided the list of those who don't, it's a much shorter list that way

I guess it depends on what you consider to be "full of crap."

I can't take a goddamn thing serious after Leblubber produced a piece explaining how a European division in the NHL was feasible.

That's like next level idiocy I'd expect out of a second grader writing a paper about their dreams.

All I'm going to say regarding Dreger is that he's pretty quick to get stuff out there without verifying if it is indeed true. Whether or not that falls into the category of "making stuff up" is likely up to personal interpretation.

Probably because he and Bob are two of the guys with legit ties in the game.

He showed up in Elliotte's 30 a few weeks ago. Crunched some numbers for him I guess that showed that Columbus' top PP unit is good.

Crack work there.

Really validates the rocket surgery that is these fancy "Entering the zone on his right skate in the 7th through 9th minute in an arena with 13000+ people and an outside air temperature of below freezing" bullshit stats give us to realize they are just putting the puck in the goddamn net a lot.

It's going to be a sad day when Bob McKenzie retires as he's likely the most trusted media member that NHL GM's and other NHL insiders confide in. I don't get the same warm and fuzzy feeling where Dreger is concerned.

My list of "give a shit" people I care about in hockey media is exclusively limited to:

Bob
Dreger
Elliott
Marek

This criticism sounds like someone who doesn't actually understand statistical analysis (hockey or otherwise) and/or the purpose of it in the first place. I don't know if that's the case, but that's how it reads.

Well he's got his cousin Dave, and then there's... who's that guy that was at Dave's Thanksgiving dinner?

Yes, you've posted this about me before.

I still sort of snicker, but it's all good.

Maybe if I explain a little further it will help make my point.

A big part of the reasoning behind looking at shot attempts (or whatever you want to call them) is that they happen a lot more frequently than goals do , so you can get adequate data sets much quicker. This is basically the exact opposite tactic of chopping everything up into very specific splits.

And again...

I very much know how these stats work...

I've stuck my toes quite deep in the "suitcase" lifestyle for a couple of years...

Then why are you making bad arguments against them?

Because there is a team in Alberta who has proven for...who the hell knows how long...that they aren't magical cup producing fairy dust and that, by golly, having talented players is usually the formula for success.

Those things are not mutually exclusive though, not at all.

Correct.

Teams with Sidney Crosby, Patrick Kane, Anze Kopitar control possession and generate shots.

From what I know from the nerds I still am in contact with, Nazem Kadri is a decent advanced stats player.

I mean, this is entirely hypothetical, but you aren't going to win a cup with 12 Nazem Kadris in your forward corp.

Sorry but what team exactly in Alberta is using analytics with no success? The one that until recently spent a decade hiring firing and re-hiring former players who were clearly in over their heads as executives and couldn't draft a decent second rounder for their lives or the other one that put off a rebuild for 8 years while being generally awful and then atoned for that by hiring the guy who turned the Leafs from a laughing stock into the league's biggest joke as team president?

It's not really about the Crosbys and Kanes though, who rate well by any measure. Or the Bolls and Bolligs, who rate poorly by any measure. The test is always in the creamy middles.
