that old Neidermayer pic reminds me of what i saw at my sons assessment camp yesterday ... at Kensington Arena in Burnaby, I was walking around looking at all the old banners of their championship teams (which are few and far between) looking for names of kids I would have grown up with in the late 80's

there are 2 huge banners that stand out and are at centre ice level hanging on the side wall ... one for a 1984 Purolator Cup canadian bantam championship, one for a 1985 Purolator cup cdn midget championship ... with all the players names on it ... one name on both banners probably explains how they won those 2 cdn championships ... JOEY SAKIC

not sure where to drop this but Phil Esposito in the cesspool just dropped some bombs about the 1972 Summit Series ... talking about how 12 players from that Russia team they played are dead and he's speculating they were possibly unknowingly on roids or some other drugs during that 1972 series

1) I count 9 dead.

2) 1 died in a car accident in the 80s, another committed suicide in the 80s, 2 had heart attacks and the other 5 I could find no cause of death for.

3) Besides the two that died prematurely, the other 7 all died in their 60s or later. Until recently, the average life expectancy in Russia hovered between 64-67.

4) There are 3 dead members of the Canadian side. Canada's average life expectancy has hovered around 77-80.

5) Esposito's an idiot.

My completely unbiased (reported?) opinion is the the Flyers uniforms absolutely suck and the mustard numbers only distract from that horrendous parking cone orange.

If you've read Bernd Bruckler's book on the KHL, I'm willing to bet this is still a thing...

That book and "King of Russia" by Dave King are absolutely awesome reads.

I just looked it up. It is 16.

It was just raised from 14 in 2008.

Legal drinking age is 18.
