What good is a one-time expansion fee when you're revenue sharing every year? It's literally robbing Paul to pay Peter (Karmanos).

I don't think it was anywhere near that high. According to the Wikipedia article on the topic (yeah, I know), when the team was sold to the league, only $36M of the purchase price was for previously owed money.

Sounds like the Canes situation is untenable ... have they even looked for a local buyer to keep the team there ... i know ive heard the "insiders" on the radio say Karmanos has been trying to sell the team for years but only a 49% stake

Winnipeg paid (was it ?) 60 shmill as a relocation fee that went to the league ... apparently for the league to re-coup what they had put into the Thrashers franchise

So ... Bill Foley pays $400 shmill to buy the Canes, move them to Vegas ... $300 shmill goes to the league and the rest refills Karmanos kids trust funds lol
