Sounds like the Canes situation is untenable ... have they even looked for a local buyer to keep the team there ... i know ive heard the "insiders" on the radio say Karmanos has been trying to sell the team for years but only a 49% stake

Winnipeg paid (was it ?) 60 shmill as a relocation fee that went to the league ... apparently for the league to re-coup what they had put into the Thrashers franchise

So ... Bill Foley pays $400 shmill to buy the Canes, move them to Vegas ... $300 shmill goes to the league and the rest refills Karmanos kids trust funds lol

You think they really get $400M for the Canes? I don't know that you'd get too many takers in the Raleigh area.

And I could see things getting to Coyotes levels of ugliness if the league has to start fighting in court with the kids about which loans (or "loans" maybe?) take precedent.

but for Bill Foley, if its either 500m for expansion (going rate or just the rate for quebec city?) or 400m for relocation

Id think 300m would be minimum for Foley to relocate IF the NHL has indeed bankrolled the canes to that amount to date

Say what you will about Gary Bettman (and I'm no fan), but he certainly has helped line the pockets of NHL owners and really that's the number one reason why he's been NHL commissioner for almost 25 years.

and even when hes costing them money like with the canes he spins it right around

He's been on NHL network a few times and his breaking down of plays and his level-headed approach to why certain lines work and certain ones don't really impressed me. After head coach, he'll probably make one hell of a GM.
