Messier was such a great leader that all the teams he played for in his last 7 seasons missed the playoffs.

And for his career the teams he actually captained missed as often as they qualified.

Exactly. To me it's all about the core group that you have. If they do their job and act like pros then your team should not have issues. If you have a core of the Kanes, Alex Kovalev and Mike Richards it doesn't matter if your captain is Henri Richard and Steve Yzerman's love child...you have leadership issues.

Yzerman is actually a good example of a guy who was a bad leader until he won, and then all of a sudden he wasn't.

2 Divisions of 8 teams in the east
3 divisions of 5 teams in the west?
No more east/west. Top 16 teams make the playoffs, seeded by record.

Never ever. We get rid of most ridiculous start times for all sides and now we're going to make first second and third round Habs/Bruins/Rangers etc. games start at 10:30 local or Kings/Sharks/Nucks games at 4:30 local? That's nuts.

That Carolina situation is very interesting. Got to think Quebec City may get a team that way. Expansion to 2 of Seattle, Vegas or Houston.

We should have a SportsHoopla get-together in Vegas baby for the home opener. Who's with me?

Never been to Vegas :rolleyes2: but sounds like fun.

/I am sure I will catch a few games there at some point

Toronto not giving up this year's 3rd rounder means they would have to negotiate with Detroit or NJ to get next year's back or come to some other solution with those teams if they intend to offer sheet an RFA this summer.

I wonder if the Oilers can find their next Mitch Moroz in the 2nd round of the entry draft later this month.
