So Nasty, honestly, what is your opinion? Do you think they team would do it? And how would you feel about it?

He's a dick for sure but I'd take him back in a heart beat. Even a few years older the guy will be a game changer. Put Kovy and 20+ goals on this team right now and we're middle of the pack in the playoff picture instead of being a fringe playoff team.

Plus, Cory is in his prime, need to capitalize on these years a bit more. If we can do that without giving up assets I think you have to do it.

Maatta signs a 6 year extension worth just over $4M per. Not too shabby. If he stays healthy, it's a very fair deal. This year he's been kinda up and down, but he's never really looked out of place in the NHL. And he's 21 in his third year in the league.

That term all relies on his health. Otherwise they'll get him in his prime years.

My hope is that he finally paid off that witch who cursed him. Obviously it's a big factor, but I guess you can pretty much look at any deal through that lens.

I like the Maatta deal a lot. Healthy, he's worth the money already, at just 21, and aging curves for defensemen peak the latest, so there's good reason to expect him to at least match the value of the deal. Gives the team stability, and Letang a long-term partner.

I think the Penguins are terrible and their fans are stupid and mean, but I think the Maatta signing is a really good one.

What's all this talk about Maata and his curves, now? ;)

Well stated though, Darkstone.

Well, that was fast.

Bob saying he's likely to be parked rest of season in order to not affect buyout.

If they are indeed buying him out, it would probably mean the Leafs plan to do a lot of spending this off-season - why stretch out his salary (even if it's a meagre cap hit) for a few more years when you can just bite the bullet for one more season in which you expect to suck anyway?
