Future Penguin Brad Boyes scores. Future...eh...let's say Dallas Star Colin Greening with the A, now has as many pts as Phaneuf since the trade.

Just remember, salary retention and a low draft pick...remember, we're still on that pesky playoff bubble, Lou!

He'd have to go through waivers the same way Nabokov did a few years ago, right?
First, every team in the league would have to agree to him returning to the league. Then, he would go through waivers but the Devils would have right of first refusal.

My guess, at least as far as this season is concerned, is that the first requirement won't pass. If you're a team up against the cap post-deadline and can't sign him, why make it so that a Cup rival with some cap space left can do so? Summer is a different story but I can't see it now.

Sounds like more of an opportunity to tell players that go to the KHL to fuck off.

Someone posted an article recently (sorry, don't remember who) that said essentially that Kovy could re-sign with the Devils without having to get approval from all 30 teams since that's the team he retired with.

I doubt the Devils would have any interest in having him, but I could see them looking to sign him and flip him if they could get all of that done by Monday.

Anyone see Joel Armia's 2nd goal last night? It was a beauty.

Just needs every NHL team to say it's okay...that'll go well.

It was me who posted it. Here it is:
NHL loophole makes Ilya Kovalchuk's return more likely

Pretty blatant loophole left out there.

And the Devils absolutely would let him come back. They are scrapping for points trying to make the show, no one involved in the fiasco is still in NJ management and if you can add a talent like that without losing assets...

Shero would absolutely do it.

There may not be anybody in management still around, but half the Devils' roster were there when he left. Those guys might not be so amenable to a reunion with a guy who left them high and dry after a run at the Cup.

But I could see them sign & trade him.
