It's a running joke - lot of pundits/fans keep blaming this all on not having Carey as if he helps the team score.

I love the "well, well, if Price is in net, the forwards will relax, and this will generate more scoring" dreck.

If so, how many points would Gretzky have had if Price was in the Edmonton net instead of Fuhr/Moog?

Earlier on there may have been a case for that but that's gone. They look unmotivated and leaderless out there. The skill is there so I'm putting this one on the coach!

Except for the Habs, great! Their season is fast becoming a complete bust. Hard to watch after such a great start!
I always knew they'd be much weaker without Price, but I didn't think they'd actually become the Leafs.

On the plus side, this should guarantee that Therrien gets sacked at some point. Like with Randy last year, silver linings.

Bergevin deserves a lot of criticism too. Goalscoring was a huge issue and instead of going out and finding a goalscorer or two he handed Therrien a bucket of Semin.

You can only hope the kids develop so much, especially when you have two of the best players in the game in their primes. You should be contending, trading picks and prospects to get to the finish line.

Probably not many - Price wasn't even born until 1987 so the net would be empty all the time, then he'd be a toddler for the last year of his Edmonton career. I think it would be a poor personnel decision.

I lost it with the Tinordi/Scott trade. A young guy and great prospect who just didn't get along with Therrien. I would have gotten rid of the coach first. Now they bury Scott in some fucked up league deal instead of throwing a popular guy on the ice in the hopes of generating even the smallest of sparks. What do you want to bet Montreal gets the 2017 Winter Classic for being involved in that trade. Dirty deals done dirt cheap!

Hey, look on the bright side - Maybe that dirty deal includes the first overall pick!

It's more than Price. They got a spark when Gallagher came back but it faded fast then Terrien fucks around with the lines in a panic. The guy is useless.

Don't hold your breath on a Price return. They'll keep slipping it and slipping it. I'm starting to think he may not be back!
I was just being sarcastic. If you cannot score more than 2 goals its going to be hard to win no matter who is in goal.
Yet, the fact that Price has been out keeps mentioned when people talk about the reasons for the slump.

As for Price, shut him down for the year if there is even a chance of it helping him long term.

What exactly is wrong with Price? Or is it the dreaded "lower body injury"?

That's all they are saying, most seem to think its a right knee injury.

I actually kind of had a feeling MT would be fired today.

I don't know if the Canes are going to re-sign Eric Staal, but he was invisible against the Flames last night.

When I looked at the initial injury, which most have said he simply keeps re-aggravating, it looks MCL like to me. Generally speaking that's not a terrible injury to come back from as long as you don't rush it, BUT with a goalie, the chance of re-injury is high because they're stressing that ligament constantly. Any time a guy is in the butterfly, the MCL is at risk.

He's such an odd case. I know that a lot of guys tend to lose it a bit when they hit 30, but there were a few years there where he was an elite player in the league, just seems to have fallen off the cliff. And with his contract, not sure moving him is possible.

The Canes are a funny team, they have some good young talent (Noah Hanifin looks terrific and did you know he's only 19, Elias Lindholm scored a beauty last night and we can't forget about Jeff Skinner), but both Staal brothers mailed it in last night.

Eric Staal probably needs a change of scenery at this point ... to put it lightly, he plays in an easy anonymous market ... to put it bluntly (and use the words of a formerizzle posterdizzle on these boards), does hockey even exist in Carolina?

But does he even want a change of scenery? He likely doesn't face near the media crush that other guys making the kind of money he does faces on a daily basis and lives in an area where you can golf year round etc. Even if he takes a pay cut from his 9.5 million that he's currently making, he's in a sweet situation.

This morning, I got a reminder why I stopped reading articles written by Scott Burnside.
