Why on earth would a subway stop cost $2 billion? Gold plated restrooms?
Under the old mayor, gold plated cocaine trays.

Under this guy, it's the 4 km. tunnel to the station. In the middle of nowhere. To take people places that they don't go.

But on the plus side he probably doesn't smoke crack so I guess I should be thankful.

Dennis Wideman got suspended, 20 games. Seems par for the course for that sort of thing.

I gotta say, I'm curious regarding the medical evidence presented at the hearing that demonstrated that Wideman had no intention of hitting linesman Don Henderson.

Leave it to Eric Macramella (who is a much smarter dude than me):

Eric Macramalla @EricOnSportsLaw
Assuming suspension is appealed expect NHLPA to rely on headshot to explain uncharacteristic contact made by Wideman.
NHLPA may pull out all the stops, including scientific evidence that could explain why Wideman did what he did following headshot thereby obviating deliberate contact.

Shame on the Flames for not following league mandated concussion protocol:

Rick Westhead @rwesthead
The NHL's heralded concussion protocol in the Dennis Wideman case wasn't followed. The concussion spotter called down to the Calgary bench.
Source: According to the NHL protocol, Wideman should then have been taken to quiet, distraction-free place & examined by doctor. He wasn't.

Marty Biron's take:

Martin Biron ‏@martybiron43 2m2 minutes ago
NHL decided rule 40.2 was the answer. Intent to injure but with a new meaning so they don't have to prove the intent

Pretty sure wideman will win his appeal easily and nhl office will be ok with that i reckon. Probably worried refs union were gonna be pissed so they gave him the max. Independant judge will reduce suspension and nhl can say :ohwell: , "we tried" to the refs

Pretty much 100% agree with your take, jstew. Also, I hope the league gives concussion spotters the power to pull a guy out of a game and make him undergo concussion testing. Otherwise, what's the point of having them at games :noidea:

I guess Dennis "Bubbles" Wideman didn't have his glasses on so the medical evidence is the he couldn't see the Linesman?

TBH, this looks like Wideman taking a hit so the Flames save face. Which is fucked up.

If the NHL is serious whatsoever regarding concussions they should be deducted draft picks, and a similar punishment for similar offenders.

Another Flames defenseman injured a zebra tonight, this time it was Engelland. Here comes 20 games for Deryk.
