It's definitely bizarre seeing Crosby with 3 goals and 4 points considering he's not any good anymore

To be fair, he was playing against Erik Karlsson and 5 ECHLers on the blueline last night. They were also being coached by a guy who thinks Mark Borowiecki deserves top pairing minutes. That is, of course, when Boro isn't on the first forward line. :burt:

Where did I say I want the Oilers to make the playoffs?!? A solid 9th or 10th place finish in the Western Conference will suffice.

All non-playoff teams are in the lottery now though, aren't they?

Yes, that's true. And if anyone can pull off a lottery win with the slimmest of odds, it would be the Oilers. In all honesty, I'm rooting for the Jackets or Leafs to win the draft lottery.

I'm happy just drafting in the top 5. I have a feeling once they trade whoever they're going to trade they're going to call up at the least Nylander and maybe even Brown and they may climb a bit at the end.

Trading Polak will probably help defensively too (and finally get Frankie some continuous gametime).

Yeah, it showed...if the real MAF showed up last night I think that game is a bit more out of hand, but he was missing last night. Doesn't help when your all world defender falls at the offensive blue line. That said, he's just so damn good. Carries that team. Anderson was...well, just like MAF, missing. Bizarre freaking game.

TBH, the only teams I really don't want to see winning the lottery or winding up in the top 3 are Edmonton and Montreal.

Nothing much against them at the moment, but I could also do without Buffalo getting Matthews. A future Buffalo top 6 of Kane-Eichel-Matthews and Girgensons-O'Rielly-Reinhart is fucking terrifying, frankly.

Much as I dislike the Canucks, I wouldn't mind seeing them get it given that they've probably been the best Canadian team over the course of the past 15 years.

But if they win the lottery and don't fire Benning I'm putting them in Oilers territory. That would be like the Leafs keeping Nonis after last year.

What would really redeem him, and I'm on record as saying the Nucks will make the playoffs and I'm still of that belief so this might all be hooey, but if they did miss and fully invest in the rebuild and he managed to offload the Sedins (which I don't think should be as hard as everyone makes it out to be) I'd be impressed.

I think Vancouver and Florida would make excellent trade partners in that scenario.

and forfeiting $564,516 in salary. When does the NHLPA appeal?
I think it was Friedman who said to expect this in yesterday's 30. Makes sense from the NHL's perspective - suspend 20 games and make the ref's union happy, fully expecting Wideman to appeal and leave it up to the arbitrator. It's win-win for them.

Too harsh imo. He tried to move out of the way of Henderson, who imo fucked up by moving closer to the flames bench

Sportsnet Stats @SNstats
#Flames Dennis Wideman's 20-game suspension is tied for the 2nd longest ban in NHL history for abusing an official.

I get the fact that the NHL needs to protect its officials, but I really don't believe there was any deliberate intent on Wideman's part. Oh well, the way Dennis was playing this season, it's not like it's a huge loss to the Flames.

How soon until the Flames pull a Kings move and terminate Wideman's contract?

I think theyre lifers and thats not on the table anymore ... unless they ask out which i dont see happening either ... and I dont see any new GM going there either ... Id sooner predict the sedins to take the last 10 - 15 games off with phantom injuries than see the sedins getting traded

theyre not making the playoffs this season ... how? San Jose and the ducks are hot now

I think they'd still like a chance at a Cup.

I don't like going back on my predictions (except that one about NJ contending for the playoffs which I retracted after dragon laughed at me and now wish I hadn't lol), and they're still only 2 pts back albeit a few games ahead. Both SJ and Anaheim have gotten hot at points this season then cooled and they're both hot right now but both have multiple games remaining vs. the Canucks (the Sharks have all 5) and both are likely to do something stupid at the deadline so I still like Van's chances.
