"Beat his ass" lol
Nerve not touched, it's just pretty well-known that players always want to represent their country. This might not be the Olympics, and yes with shit like Team Europe and Team U-23 it has a certain absurdity to it, but it still may be the start of something big, something that doesn't require stopping the league for 3 weeks in February to compete in. I think Price has a lot of pride stemming from his performance in Sochi and I don't think he'd be very happy if he was 100% healthy and able to show that he's back in form and the team tells him to sit out so they have a .5% better chance of nabbing a top 3 pick.I didn't mean to touch a nerve, maybe I worded it poorly. What I was trying to say is that I don't think Carey Price will be rehabbing like a madman in order to be ready for the World Cup of Hockey tourney. If he's tabbed as the number 2 goalie behind Holtby for the tourney, I think he'll be just fine. Regarding the tourney itself, I still don't know which team I'm supporting. I mean my support is usually for Team Canada, but the U23 team will likely have the most Flames players along with a bunch of other young stars that I enjoy watching in the NHL.
...If Team Canada is really going to include rat marchand for his "leadership", then I'm cheering for Horvat and the kids.
...
This is joke, yes?
So was the Canada Cup a joke, too? I'm trying to understand here...the world cup of hockey? Yes

I could do without the stupid elements but you're really not going to tune into a tournament that the best hockey players will be playing competitively in?when they get this euro stars and u23 shit figured out ill start tuning in ... no comparison to Canada Cup in any form

If you insist.is it in august or september? Ill be drinking a beer by the lake
If you insist.
FIFA World Cup makes a fuck ton for FIFA and not a heckuva lot for the players. Guess they're miserable at those tournies too?
Maybe he didn't want to smile so much considering he was an owner and thus profiting and would seem ill-mannered?
Also, the lockout started days later so it was kind of a shitty mood all around.
The players will make money off of the WC just like the owners so why wouldn't they be happy with the tournament? It also more closely follows the Canada Cup mould of multi-game knockouts which alone make it better than the Olympics in my eyes.
You kinda just made the point for me, though - even the mighty soccer World Cup had its doubters in the early going and today if a player misses out on it it haunts him forever. Everything has to get a start somewhere.Stop right there. The FIFA World Cup has a shitload of history. The IIHF World Cup is brand new with a completely fucked up tournament format (based purely on marketing). These aren't really comparable.
Also, I'm not a big soccer guy but I believe in the early days of the FIFA Cup there were plenty of players, and I believe even some big soccer nations, who just skipped the thing some years.
Basically every NA player and most of the NHL Euros care 10x more about winning the SCF than this tournament or even the Olympics. I can see Price being happy to ease his way onto next season, rather than risk injury before the season in a contrived tournament that really means nothing.
What does David Clarkson have to do with Montreal's success?Anyway, Price was on the ice today taking light drills so unless he totally re-injures himself he'll be back in a month or so. It seems highly unlikely, but if the Habs win even half their games until then they'd still be in a playoff race and then they get the best deadline acquisition you can get.
I don't think the Jets can be happy with this start.......
