The salary breakdown is as follows: 2015-16: $2,500,000; 2016-17: $3,000,000; 2017-18: $4,500,000; 2018-19: $4,850,000; 2019-20: $5,050,000; and 2020-21: $5,100,000. The announcement was made by Devils’ General Manager Ray Shero.

Big commitment to a guy who was healthy scratched recently.

He was healthy scratched because Pete Deboer is an asshole that doesn't like young players. Anytime Larsson has played significant minutes he's looked like a top pairing defenseman or at the very least, a soon to be top pairing defenseman. My only problem with the contract is that he'll be 28 when it expires and if all goes right he'll be in line for a massive payday. I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get to it but I love that he's locked up for awhile and that the cap hit is very, very nice for a potential number 1 blueliner.

At least $1.5 shmill too high. I'd say $2 million too high. $6.5 AAV for a guy who hasn't even eclipsed 60 points in a 82 game schedule? Again ...

Stepan averaged 65 pts/82 games this season. He's NYR's only option for 1st line centre and that is some good leverage right there. With a 6 year deal they're buying at least one UFA year (I'm guessing more). It seems inflated but it's probably pretty close to market rate.

I kinda figured DeBoer was an issue with Larsson. I've always liked his game; glad to hear he's putting it all together now.
