Seems like a lot of money for an "aging" guy. Guess his productivity hasn't really taken a sharp dive or anything, has 18pts in 20g, but going to be 32 when that deal starts. I suppose I'm "meh" about it. Not horribly awful, but not great. So, mediocre I guess. Probably the best you can expect in this market.

He was awful in the first 50 games last year and then quite good the rest of the way. He still has major flaws but he puts up points. I'm OK with his age but not his injury history. Too many back woes for me.

Glad Ottawa got some assets for him this offseason because I don't think this would have been a good contract for them.

Was it back that kept him out in the lockout shortened year?

The big question with Spezza is health and his wonky back, but he is a point per game player throughout his career. I think it's a pretty good deal especially when you consider that the market for centres isn't that great currently.

While Demers had played well in stretches he's never been able to put it all together consistently, and he's been pretty bad this year. I like that Dillon blocks shots and hits. The defense could use a kick in the ass.

That's not a bad deal for the Sharks - Brenden Dillon gives them a little bit more physicality

Benoit Pouliot of the Oil broke his foot blocking a shot last night and is out indefinitely.

So you're saying the Oilers wont be as good as the 1st 20 games?

He was off to a crappy start with the Oil this year (can't believe he got a 5 year deal from Edmonton, but on second thought, take a look at who's running the show). The best thing that could have happened was him going on LTIR and the Oil getting some cap relief.

..?
Relief doesn't kick in until they spend to the cap, and the cOil are $4m away.
I guess they could add a $4m player and then add another with pouliot's room, but they don't really seem like a 'buyer' this season. Or any season , for that matter.

Another place I frequent there a Broons fans going nuts about how Lucic would have been suspended for years if he hit someone who didn't have his glove off. Really, they said that. And meant it.

D'oh, my bad, I thought the Oil were closer to the cap and didn't realize they still had that big of a buffer.
