If the NCAA tried to mandate that, the CFP Committee could tell them to go copulate with themselves. The NCAA couldn’t do a GD thing about it.

I do agree with that. If you want to be in the CFP, join a conference. ND is a part of the ACC in practically every other sport, why not football?

I really hope that doesn't happen but it seems like that's likely. The NCAA and conferences would rather keep putting band-aids on things rather than do a deep fix of the issue.
