"If" the opportunity presents itself to obtain Mack, you do it within reason. Mack is a generational player and those are hard to come by. Kerrigan is getting up there in age and Smith, who looks to have upside, has been anything but consistent in our defense. I really like Smith & Kerrigan but....Mack & Smith or Kerrigan would make the defense better. Nothing will come of this though.

What makes Mack generational? How was Oakland’s defense last season?

I think the problem with that Sty is KMack would cost a lot more than Kerrigan.

Yeah, it was just me throwing out that hypothetical. Interesting proposition though...no?

He is clearly the best edge rusher in football. Oakland sucked on defense last year.

Huh?!? Kerrigan had more sacks the past two years. Mack had a lot more than Kerrigan 3 years ago but I think you are overstating that by a bit. One of the best I agree, the best …. no way.

I think Von Miller would disagree.

Von Miller had a 1/2 sack less than Kerrigan the past two years. We under value what we have here. We did this with the QB who is now in Minnesota. Chandler Jones is the only person I noticed that had more sacks than Kerrigan the past two years. NO, Kerrigan has not had a 15 or 17 sack season. His best years were 13.5 two times. But he is consistent and still one of the best in the league.

I know that I don't see Kerrigan in that light and have taken my share of chiding for taking this position. That said, let's dig into this a bit.

One sack per game gives Kerrigan 16 in a season and that's impressive, but how impactful have they been? Statistically, he ranks with the very best, but who game plans for him? How many teams have to chip or double because he's that feared? Von Miller is a force, recognized leaguewide as a constant threat to get behind the LOS and disrupt on any given play. I suspect that folks are beginning to see Mack as they see Miller.

Make no mistake, to me Kerrigan is a very, very, good player, I liken him more to Charles Mann than Dexter Manley. So in terms of getting Mack for Kerrigan, ask yourself the question...When building a team, who would you select, Charles Mann or Dexter Manley? Then ask yourself why? This is the way I see the differences in them and why, I believe some, including myself, would take a Miller or Mack over Kerrigan. I hope that helps!

Your probably right. AP disagrees with Chris Carter as well about what he has left in the tank.
To Stys point, no one is game planning Kerrigan or Smith. If obtaining Mack takes a minimum two 1st then hell no. But the idea of Mack and Kerrigan coming off the edge could be scary.

I doubt we do it, but Mack, Allen, Payne, and Kerrigan on passing downs would be dynamic.

Sty this is going to go the way of the Cousin's debates so I am not going to beat myself over the head and rehash over and over. It amazes me that the guy you see all the time is not as good as the guy you see in highlights. Several of you mentioned that other teams don't game plan for Kerrigan. Really?? They are sending you their game plan? I need to get in on that deal. Conversely you guys are watching all of the Denver and Oakland games and also have their opponents game plan each week. YES I am being a Richard with those last statements but no more so than those of you who know other teams game plans.

At the same time I get it, everyone wants the other pretty girl in the corner. Not the same old one you see every week and know all his warts etc. We all know that pretty girl doesn't have any warts and won't ever make you say "what was I thinking?" Ever notice how those other really good QBs are always better than ours? I am not telling you Kerrigan is better. I am telling you he is better than you and some others are giving him credit for. He is also cheaper. We all see the contracts and know where this is headed so you can have the guy that gets the about the same amount of sacks and pay 40% more. :2cents:

I have given Kerrigan his just due, so to be clear he is very, very, good, in fact one of the best.
That said, I honestly believe that you're either missing the point or avoiding it. So let's get directly to it.

Manley or Mann? Why?
Cost aside.. Miller or Kerrigan? Why?
Cost aside...Mack or Kerrigan? Why?
BE HONEST!!

First of all Manley or Mann was something you added that has nothing to do with Kerrigan, Mack or Miller. But if you want to play silly games. Mann was the better overall player and Manley was the better pass rusher. I loved Dexter.

Cost aside is not an option. If they all were going to get the same contract I would take both Mack and Miller only because they are younger. I have shown you stats that say Kerrigan is their equal.

Dude, it's just not that serious. It was a hypothetical that seems to bother you more than anyone else. The Dexter-Mann comparison, as are the others, was included for two reasons. 1. To add a local familiar flavor. 2. To show that there are differences in the TYPE of player. This is where you're either missing the point or avoiding it. All said, I'm done with this!

If the question is would I rather have Manley or Mann … then the answer is Manley. The reason why? He way up there on my list of favorite all time Redskins. It was back in those days not to love everyone on the team. If I miss understood your point I apologize. :suds:

No problem man, we've been able to communicate effectively with one another for a long time now, neither of us being perfect, there are going to be moments like these from time to time.
