Apparently, Caldwell told Stafford at the half that he was going to bench him if he threw another interception. Apparently Stafford himself revealed this to the media in post-game interviews. Also, Stafford was not made part of the post-game press conference for the first time...maybe ever?

Caldwell warned Stafford at the half he'd be benched next interception.

Kyle Meinke @kmeinke

The Lions did not make Matt Stafford available at a press conference. First time I can remember that happening since I started covering team

Stafford spoke for 3 or 4 minutes on Fox Sports Detroit.

He says he was bad and the QB starter spot is a coaches decision.

This is why Wisenhunt avoided Detroit like the plague.

Create a QB controversy to (try to) save your job. Class act that Caldwell guy.

Staff deserved to be benched.

Yup, but say it's because the game was out of reach. Doing it this way just makes it look like he's saying "not my fault." (I don't coach that)

Hahaha... Overpaid Actors

Jon Kitna got benched after a meltdown with 3 interceptions against the Packers in week 2 (thought it was week 3 until I looked it up) 2008. Kitna got placed on IR even though he said he was fine. The Fan Base and the Media got Millen oust and collected 10 million buyout on his contract. WC Ford and Millen were still friends afterwards.

The fan base is being played, IMHO.

Stafford: Wheeeew, thought I was going to have to keep taking a beating for my huge paycheck.

I thought it was 70?

Tying an Alltime record.

On Staff being benched for throwing that last pick: poor form on Caldwells part. It was 4th down. If have been more annoyed if Staff had taken a sack there. Incomplete, sack, pick, completion short of the sticks.... Arizona ball.

Had Jim said he took Staff out because he's got the shot kicked out him all year, and the game was out of hand, I'd think the move made sense.

Yep 70 passes. And we ran for 57 yards which is above our average per game. Lions offensive playcalling is amazing and well balanced.

I hope this is the end for Staff. Trade him so we can all watch him lead some team to the superbowl. Its destiny for that to happen. For years everyone will say, how in the world could the Lions trade him away at 27 years old.

I've felt the urge to be Pro-Staff all day. Not gonna quit fighting it just yet.

Is it even possible to trade him? I have no idea how much of that contract counts against our cap. And I'm afraid we don't have any posters these days with the authority to clarify my question.

Texans, Jets, Broncos. In a heart beat. Elway would win 3 SBs w him. I'm serious.

His cap hit is $22.5 for 2016. he still carries 11 million in dead money. So much like Suh. It would save 11.5 mill in cap space, but your still paying 11 mill for him not to be a Lion.

If he went to the Texans, he could hold franchise records for two franchises. I bet that's rare.

Jets would be sick with Staff.

Not the kind of savings that is needed for me to support the beginning of The Stanzi Era.
