Also, there's this:

Sunaya Sapurji ‏@sunayas According to USA Hockey John Gaudreau is now tied for the second most goals scored by a U.S. forward in a single tournament.

Sunaya Sapurji ‏@sunayas The single tournament record (8 goals) by an American is held by @Jeremy_Roenick. #USAHockey #WJC2013

I also take solace in the fact that Nail Yakupov had a terrible tournament for Russia. Good luck with that guy Edmonton, you're going to need it.

the third period and OT of that Swe-Rus game was really, really excellent.
evenly matched teams, back and forth action, refs stayed out of the way.
Swedes really could have buried this game in the first period

shootout is an awful way for an elimination game to be decided.

I don't see Grigs having a great tourney so far, or is that just because all you hear about is Nail?

Yeah, he was relatively quiet for most of the tournament, but he really started to pour it on in the last 2 games against the Swiss and Sweden.

Against the Swiss, he scored a goal and had an assist, and also scored a goal in the shootout, which helped Russia win the game. He was named player of the game afterwards.

In the game against Sweden, he scored the tying goal that gave Russia a chance to win in OT and the Shootout.

Now we just have to wait and see how well he does in the bronze medal game against Canada.

Thanks for the info.

The thing that bothers me is that Teravainen was just waiting to get scooped up by Calgary and they traded down to draft Mark Jankowski. He'd better pan out 6 or 7 years down the road.

4 games is crap. There was a play in the Russia vs Slovakia game in which there was a high stick & the Slovakian player was bleeding. The Russian player only got 1 game.

I gotta say, the IIHF seems to look at the jersey the player wears when it comes down to handing out supplementary discipline.

It's not like Reinhart was getting a lot of ice time during this tourney. Next year would probably be a different story though. I don't get why Murphy played so much. He's a very good skater, but he's a liability defensively.

IIHF, "Reinhart made eye contact with his opponent, raised his stick & delivered a two hand slash to the head & neck area."
Reinhart: 'As I was tripping I kind of lost balance & my stick rode up his stick & made accidental contact to the head.'

we'll see. pretty damned steep penalty.

in other news:
Germany wins the relegation game to stay at the top division at next year's world junior tourney.
Latvia going back down; Norway promoted up

Murphy was there because Spott put his Kitchener team ahead of Team Canada and campaigned for him. Corrado should have been on the team (he's just as good offensively as Murphy and much better defensively).

What happened to country before your players? Somebody high up should have made it clear taking the best team is the most important thing. Murphy wasn't the only defenseman on Canada who hasn't played well though. It's not like Dougie Hamilton is going to want to see many highlights of his performance.
