i'm just glad we had a lockout to prevent deals that broke the 'spirit' of the salary cap. how does bettman (a lawyer by trade) make deals that are so easily loop-holed? he's gotta be a worse lawyer than he is a comissioner.
I doubt it happens, but it would be hilarious if it did.
on the radio this AM, they were speculating Boston's motivation (besides dumping Thomas and his salary) was to clear room to make a move on Iginla.
Show up, play one game, get paid and be the center of attention again?
He'll be there.
Before I comment, was this on Boston Radio or was this a sane, rational person with more than four minutes' journalism training?
I don't know what TSN and other sports sites are saying but militianation.com's Whitey Rogers is reporting Thomas may report to the Islanders
Would be hilarious if he showed up 40 lbs overweight, cigarette dangling, and was completely un-subtle about phoning it in.
Bos loses its pick, Isles have to pay him, and we all get free comedy.
Or he fails his physical, the deal gets rescinded, and we still get some chuckles

This one please.

huh... though teams weren't allowed to talk about payers during the lockout?
tweet was deleted 10m later, btw

there's no way the isles/bruins dont get punished for this.. they're circumventing the cap in the same way that back-diving contracts did (which got the devs punished), AND they were apparently in discussions during the lockout? this is ridiculous.
Isn't the need for a physical - or the standards to pass said physical - determined by the team though?
So if the Islanders set the standards for passing that he has to weight less than 500 pounds and be able to run the 40 in under 10 minutes, it would be awfully hard to fail.

going back to mattolas post a page or 2 back ... why isnt the NHLPA screaming bloody murder about this?
If only the rules applied to Jacobs.

They aren't screaming because it is a zero sum exchange. With TT on the Bruins books they could not have aquired anyone the Islanders would. Now the Bruins can and the Islanders have TT cap hit.
This still really bothers me. This is just another example of the inconsistency with decision making in the league. Whether it's what contracts and deals are allowed (Kovy 17 yrs not allowed, Kovy 15 yrs, allowed), what hits are suspension worthy or not, what teams get bail outs from the league (Phoenix) and which don't (Atlanta). If I'm the Devils I'm filing a grievance to retain their 1st round pick.
