shady!
Islanders had until tomorrow to be cap compliant. They needed Thomas' cap hit to make sure they stayed above the cap floor through end of the year.

I actually gotta hand it to Wang and Snow. This is a pretty smart way to spend as little as possible.
Now if they would only apply their cunning to winning instead of cheapness...
suspended
dont have to pay him
counts against cap
wang
more wow
Bob McKenzie ✔ @TSNBobMcKenzie
Which is ideal for NYI. No acquisition price. NYI can toll contract to next year if they like, continue to get cap benefit in perpetuity
tolling contract ... ie like when they suspended Nabokov to make him honour the final year of his contract with them
if they toll the contract they can apply his contract to next year in order to meet the floor
what a sham
Some Flames fans wanted Mike Vernon back in the day to get hit by a bus and he tried it once, but the bus went right between his legs.
The Isles are making strides and could contend for a playoff spot as soon as this spring. Next year they should be gunning for a playoff spot. Why would they help out a fellow Eastern team like this?
This is just fucking brutal. The Isles should have to forfeit their 1st rounder for this kind of thing. Put it into a lottery for all the other teams or something just to make it fun and so that Wang can feel the sting every time that player lights up the score sheet.

The league has approved the trade.
If he's officially retired, i.e. has filed the paperwork with the league and NHLPA for his retirement, then I don't believe the contract can be tolled. That's how it worked in the previous CBA but I don't know if that's changed with this new one.
of course they did it helps out Boston tremendously and thats all they are there for
this league really is a joke
Thomas signed the contract at age 35 or older. The contract is on the books no matter what.
