The thing is, paying less than the cap hit isn't really circumvention - theoretically Visnovsky could be worth 10% of the cap ceiling even if he's paid less. He isn't, because he's Visnovsky, but the Isles could make a semi-decent case there. Not so much on the trading for a goalie who isn't going to play.

What they did here is like if the Flyers traded Pronger to the Isles for a draft pick. Sure, he COULD come back. But everyone knows he won't.

Don't give Chuck any ideas.:help:

As for the Islanders, they are treated as slush; a shell entity for the other teams in the league. This is where all the irregularities eventually end up; a bunch of assets off the balance sheet and what not.

Ladies and gentlemen ... your NEW YORK ISLANDERS OF MISFIT TOYS

Hands up if you thought Tim Thomas would be traded before Roberto Luongo...

Thinking about this some more the nhlpa should have issue with this as well knowing full well Thomas is not going to play and the islanders needed to raise there cap by $5m they took a non roster player knowing he won't play thereby taking away a chance for a legit player trade and maybe freeing up a roster spot for a young player to get NHL money

So in conclusion Thomas stabs his nhlpa brethren in the back again

I wish Tim Thomas all the best. he basically carried my team to a Cup win. I dont wish to bring political issues into this forum so I will reserve comment on his.

I will remember him as a goalie and not what his stances on current affairs are.

If he plays, great. If not, I don't understand how this is legal. That said, you can't blame the Isles too much. I think they'll spend when they need to, but right now they'd only be wasting money on pricey deals for players not worth it. They have trouble attracting FAs, and if they do get one, they have to up the price. They're heading in the right direction though talent wise. For their, and Bolts', sake, I hope Wang antes up when pay day hits for more of their young talent.

What I want to see is an interview on NHL.com getting Tim Thomas's reaction to the trade. :D

This deal could actually get better for Wang if Thomas actually shows up. Okay please correct me if I'm wrong, but Thomas's cap hit is 5M, but his actual salary is 3M. This is right up Chuck's alley. He loves those kind of contracts.:L

on the radio this AM, they were speculating Boston's motivation (besides dumping Thomas and his salary) was to clear room to make a move on Iginla. What do others think of that? As a fan of a top team in the East, I know I'd rather not see this happen. Boston without Iginla is a force; with him.....

I'd much prefer he just stay in Calgary where he can't do any damage (sorry Dash). of course on the other hand, I'd love to see him win a Cup...just not at the expense of a team I root for.
