Out of curiosity... who is the Canadian anchors for the broadcasts? Have they been doing it a long time?

I wish that cable would give us the option to watch other country's broadcasts. It would be cool to see, especially because Costas is distracting right now...

Awe shucks ronnie is cbc's primetime olympic coverage anchor

I prefer him doing this as opposed to hnic

Cbc is pretty barebones after govt cuts so they have andi petrillo and some asian dude doing overnight anchoring

Still more balanced than nbc coverage though

What do you mean by balanced? Towards the sports rather than the American stars?

That 15 year old Russian was incredible to watch. If she only matures, next Olympics should be amazing for her as well.

Re: the broadcasts. I do have to say that now having a 1080p TV for the first time during an Olympics, the shots of the action (especially the slow mo stuff) is just getting ridiculous. The detail you have access to now with the technology is crazy.

I guess in a few more Olympics, we'll be watching it all in 4K (a name I still don't understand since it's really just 2160p).

Nbc is into star building. Cbc just lets the athletes performances speak for themselves. More of a global feel too. My opinion could be colo(u)red by fact i am watching live coverage on cbc and the nbc coverage i have seen is taped

I've heard a lot of Americans criticize it, too. I don't mind it b/c you have 2 options - the main/primetime broadcast which is basically like 3 hours of short segments of different competitions. And then you have 4 or 5 other channels where you can just watch like the full curling competition or a whole game or an entire skiing competition if you're into that.

But yeah, American media tends to focus more on the Americans, and I can understand why they do it b/c who doesn't want to cheer on their nation's own to some degree. So I'd be curious to watch other country's broadcasts to get a sense of how they do it, what their theme songs are, etc. etc.

Like does CBC use the John Williams theme? Or is there a different song they have?

They have there own theme music. Thankfully not "i believe" from 2010
