Is that automatic? I thought Sweden was guaranteed of the lowest seeded winner? For example, if Latvia upset Switzerland, I thought they'd get Latvia.

Yeah, once the seedings are set, it's a bracket tournament; teams don't get reseeded.

I really like the Swedish and US chances to make the semis; Canada likely makes it too, but that fourth slot is likely going to be a bloodbath of a game between Russia and Finland.

The US can only play Russia again for gold (or bronze if both lose in the semis), and can only play Canada in the semis (which they likely will).

Don't count out the Swiss - I would give them a shot to beat Canada - they've only given up one goal in three games, Jonas Hiller hasn't given up any in his two starts and they haven't given up a PP goal yet - and some of the Swiss players(Mark Streit, Raphael Diaz and Yannick Weber, three key guys on their defense) know Carey Price so it could make things interesting - and I still don't think Carey Price is up to the task, for some reason I could see him having some issues at some point

Had the refs yesterday or today done the right thing, it could be Canada Vs US in the Qualification round. US would be playing Norway and the winner of that would face CAN.

Which is what they were trying to avoid, one imagines. Marquee matchup so early and all.

Why is it easier to watch Canada games than USA games? makes no sense

You have to remember that Canada's been watching and supporting these international "best-on-best" tournaments for almost 40 years. They all but "made" them happen for years and years before most of the world even cared.

Wouldn't they still be guaranteed to play for a medal? The two semifinal winners would play for the gold, and the two losers would play for the bronze.

they always play Canada tough. even when they have shit teams, they somehow keep it close.
now that they do have some talent.... it won't be a gimme by any means

This is the part of the Olympics that sucks - the real early games and then nothing on TV in the evening/night

I feel sort of guilty for not getting up, but it really should be an easy W. No offense to the lady Swedes, but...well, yeah. I've just been up for 4 of the last 5 days to watch (Wed, Thur, Sat, Sun). I'm not enough of an adult to do this consistently.

That's why I didn't get up early for the US/Slovenia game, I knew the US would win that game so it wasn't worth getting up that early - I'll probably have to get up early on Wednesday since I'm sure the US will get the early game like they have all along
