I don't mind them playing ECU every once in a while, but don't see a need to play every year.

More of a shout out to VT fans, since he never played in Lane, but cool nonetheless

I think one could argue that Steger oversaw some serious improvements in the academics, athletics, and overall profile of Virginia Tech. I'm hoping they're able to find a high quality replacement, and that they don't rush the process.

VT>UVA is a given.

Speaking to the article outside of VT-UVA, I don't think that list says what the author thinks it does though. The method used is totally arbitrary (or very poorly described). Total draft picks / (4* + 5*) ? That's as much player development, good college scouting, or poor NFL scouting, as it is converting elite talent into the draft. Then there's the fact that some elite recruits never make it into the starting lineup at elite schools because of other elite recruits. It's nearly impossible for the elite recruiting teams to make it to the best side. For every team that I buy on ethier side of that list, there's another that is completely skewed by the method.

Maybe I'm over-thinking it.

As a follow-up to our previous post, we would like to provide a more complete view of the best and worst colleges based on converting elite recruits into NFL Draft picks (number of draft picks divided by the number of four and five star recruits). This study considers the last six NFL drafts, and examines the top sixty schools in terms of relevant recruiting cycles over the past twelve years. We exclude schools that have not produced a single draft pick in the 2007-2012 period or that have less than four elite recruits over the relevant recruiting cycles

I agree that you have to be careful what you take from this, but I don't think it's meaningless either. The fact that some elite recruits never make it into the starting lineup at elite schools because of other elite recruits is a great point, and one of the reasons why schools that pull in top recruiting classes will have a harder time looking good in this analysis. But that's all it is... a reason for the result they found, not an argument against it. So walking into a kid's living room a VT coach can say "Look, Bama is going to have 3 kids with your level of talent that you'll have to compete against, and even if you beat them out you'll end up getting less playing time over the course of your career, which means less experience or getting to the NFL later or what have you... come to VT and better your odds, decrease that time, maximize your experience, etc.". Then there's the question of why a school like UVA looks so bad here, and the reason is different. There a VT coach can say "Look, UVA pulls in some good recruits, but they don't coach them up properly, they don't get them the exposure that you'll get at VT, etc. We maximize what we get better than than they do. Come have your talents maximized at VT."

The defense should be stellar, but the offense is a big old question mark.

So, pretty good.

That was the same thing we said going into last season. I won't make too big of a judgement until I see us play a few games

And the year before, and the year before, and the year before, etc. Defense is typically the one side of the ball we don't have to worry about and I always have questions about the offense.
