FML. Things like this could have been us. Whether it would have been stadium upgrades, or other new facilities, recruiting the talent it takes to win titles, or paying for all that construction... we have officially installed the ceiling on our program courtesy of steger and weaver. Very disheartening to say the least.

I went to the Sugar Bowl, and it was a blast. I didn't even mind the Michigan fans, and was glad enough VT fans showed up that we didn't seem outnumbered in New Orleans.

The real prize will be to see VT win some of these Big 10 games.

Is it just me or does ECU and ODU appear on our future schedules way too much...especially the games @ ECU? I don't mind playing these schools, but all these games in consecutive years is garbage. And VT should at most be getting 2 home games for every visit to ECU. App State is joining the Sun Belt, we need to get them to replace ECU a couple of these years.

I'm not a fan of playing ECU every single year at all. We agreed to play ODU on the terms we get 2 home games in order for us to travel to ODU. I like that agreement with ODU being in the middle of the 757 for recruiting purposes.

I also wonder if we are working on getting a marque OOC opponent for 2018 and 2019 to fill that 2 year gap or if we will be trying to work into the chik fil a game for those with a last minute scheduling deal?

I'd heard we were talking to schools about 2018-9, but at this point it may be too late. I would not be surprised to see us try to play ND in one of those years and the chik-fil-a in the other.

I've been under the impression ECU has dirt on Weaver and blackmailed him into a deal.

We play ECU because they're close, usually picked up on TV, they've been flexible in scheduling (haven't we bumped games on them twice now?), buy tickets, and are good enough to make it interesting but bad enough that we expect to win most years. From Weaver's prespective that's the sweet spot.

We don't play WVU anymore, Tennessee and Penn State don't play us, and every other regional program of note is in the ACC or has an ACC rivalry game already. The series was gone if the ACC moved to 9 games (which I think Weaver wanted) so we kind of settled for a poor man's NC State for our 9th game.

I don't think any of us really like the series, but its probably not going away soon.

that's actually what irritates me.. if you're going to schedule a cupcake, schedule a cupcake. if you're going to schedule a top dog, schedule a top dog. the tweeners like this (and boise) are a no-win situation IMO.. you either win, like you're supposed to, or you lose, and are the laughing stock of the nation for a couple weeks. when in reality, ECU has put together some pretty solid football teams over the last few years.

I second.. or third that. ECU is a lose-lose, IMO. I've also heard playing them is good for recruiting and I think sample size is large enough now to disprove that as well.
