New Post -- Breaking: Pam Ward out of ESPN's college football coverage Breaking: Pam Ward out of ESPN's college football coverage | May #sblog

Wait was she the one who called the Miami game two seasons ago?! If so, this is great news. That game was almost unbearable to listen to. Thank god we won.

Any of you guys got one of the new 3d tvs? I just ordered Panasonic - VIERA / 55" Class / Plasma / 1080p / 600Hz / Smart / 3D / HDTV - TC-P55UT50 that tv, but haven't seen a 3D movie in probably 15 years. Seems like this may be the shizzit come football season, but I don't know how well this technology has evolved over the last few years. Any differences in performance from 3D movies, sports, or even PS3 games? Anybody familiar with the 2D-3D conversion that has come out recently to broadcast any 2D picture to 3D?

I bought a LG 42" 3D TV this past Black Friday. The movies and sports look great (College Football and X games are badass). The "Discovery Channel" type programming also looks really cool (Animals, Space stuff, if you are into that). Unfortunately I am with DirecTV and the programming options are quite limited. I think I get around 8-10 channels. I am sure this is the same for all cable providers. The only one that I have really checked out alot is ESPN. There was a couple a reran VT games (UNC is the one I remember watching after I went to the game) that played. They don't show all of the ESPN games on 3D. You can expect the Thursday night game to always be in 3D. I would expect the GT, U, and FSU games to be on 3D this year. You will enjoy your new set.

Caution...IF you drink entirely too much during a 3D game (like I may do from time to time)..take your 3-D glasses off and "come to" before making a move towards the fridge for your next beverage...:faint:
The glasses can make you a bit loopy and even give you a headache if on for a long time..

Poor choice going with a plasma Cam. You'll regret it in 2 years.

I have heard that too. The picture is a little bit sharper IMO (on a plasma) but I have heard they have had problems with them after awhile. Glare reduction is supposedly much better with a plasma but they are not nearly as reliable. I purchased a LED for those reasons...plus it was a sweet deal.

Mine is almost exactly like this one...I said 42" earlier but it is actually 47"..

Got that bitch on Black Friday with a LG 3-D Blu-Ray player for like $850.00-900.00..Love it

a lot of people say that but i own a 42" that is at least 5yo and another 55" that ive had for 2.5 or so. As long as you go through the "break in" period (avoid black bars and solid images for the first 100hours or so) i dont see any prob.

FTR though both my plasmas get waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy hotter than LED's and heat=energy.

samsung ftw.

That's a myth. I had a plasma for years before it got hit by lightning, and I was unable to locate a part for it. Which is why i am buying another. In any case though, I can troubleshoot and fix a TV myself if need be... so as long as the part is still available, and its not the screen I will be fine. Panasonic screens are rated to last 20+years, and only use $24 a year in electricity on average, so thats not a problem assuming they are telling the truth. Burn-in problems are almost non existent on plasmas today also. I buy plasmas because of the wide angle viewing, deep blacks, and 600hz refresh rate for sports/games. They are just what is best for what I use a TV for. If had had an extra couple of hundred to spend on a TV of like caliber i would go with LED, but I don't, and am not going to settle for an LCD that doesn't match my needs.

Thats a pretty good deal. I actually didn't spend what Best Buy was asking on that link I posted. I think mine was $989.99 while Sears was having a "midnight madness" sale the other night. Thanks for your advice on the 3D, and especially the drunken football watching advice. haha.
