That was my first thought as well. No excuses for DV.

If he improved his athleticism he would be much more valuable. He's listed at 6'0 250. I doubt if he dropped 20-30lbs it would have much of an impact on his bat. Not sure what his body fat percentage is, but he could clearly lose some weight.

its sad as mariners fans we expect our guys to be injured

Yeah it's pretty much a win now days when we play and don't get injured... We just measure our success differently than those that win World Series...

Good to see Vogelbach hitting well. I think many of us have lost faith in him, primarily due to his poor performance at the plate in his limited MLB experience. He's a one tool player and really has to put on a performance with his bat to really validate any significant playing time outside of DH.

I've lost faith in him mostly because he had an entire off-season to work on playing first base as it was his job and he came into camp and played the season worse than most of us could play 1B. His big thing though is, like you say, he is a 1 tool guy but his approach was just weird last year. He would only swing if it was a perfect pitch, so he'd be behind in the count in every AB.

I'd rather never have the experience of seeing him in the field. Based on his physical appearance, I have to imagine it is quite pathetic.

I'm just hoping that he throws up decent enough statistics at the plate to validate a role as a DH. It's a pipe dream, but that's what I'm hoping for.

In Tacoma there was a hard grounder hit to him that any normal fielder should've taken it to the bag but he waited for the pitcher to get there and the runner beat it out early in the year. He got slightly better but IMO not enough to get the job there if he isn't a plus .300 hitter.

I think he'd be alright if he got some time with Edgar or some professional hitting coach that gets it into his head you don't get the perfect pitch every AB. In the games I saw him he'd always be down in the count then rip one for a hit to all fields, which is fine in AAA but down 0-2 in the bigs is nearly a guaranteed out unless you are a top flight hitter which I don't think he is there. IMO with him it is just his approach, not mechanics, confidence or whatever plagues Mariners who end up AAAA players.

I can see that first pitch being wrapped around Safeco's RF pole for a go ahead HR in the 9th by an Angel, but the others were nice sexy low/edge strikes.
