Difference between this game and the SJ game on Saturday was getting to the hoop and making layups when the long-range shots weren't falling. Against SJ they kept shooting, which is ok honestly when you are a shooting team, but they missed 5 or 6 layups. Also, UC was 6-6 from the FT line down the stretch to close out the game.

If you go back to what I said about the SJ game, you can live with going cold from 3-point range, but you have to make layups and FT's if you want to still have a chance to win. That was the difference between this game and SJ's on Saturday.

Huge win for UC on the road.

What was up with that defensive effort? We were like the basketball version of the Saints - If they didn't turn it over, we weren't stopping them.

BTW -- Anyone else think John Thompson's son is overrated? It's easy to recruit kids to Georgetown - I don't think he gets as much out of that roster as he needs to.

Gtown always seems to beat teams they "shouldn't" and lose to teams they should beat.

No question that last night was an anomaly. When you give up 60% shooting on the road, especially in the BE, you are normally getting the doors blown off. Those turnovers down the stretch were huge, as was the defensive stop by Jackson forcing the guy to step on the base-line, effectively giving UC the win, or the chance to freeze G-town out with 2 FT's.

UC shot 81% from FT last night...had a 20-7 edge in points off turnovers, and forced 17 turnoves (9 steals, I think) compared to just 9 turnovers for UC...those are the things that will keep you in the game when shots aren't falling.

Gtown couldn't hit shit with 6 minutes to go. Before then they were lights out. It wasn't bad defense by UC, though. They just couldn't miss. You see the guy bank in the 3 pointer at the buzzer before the half? That shit only happens to UC.

G-town didn't hit anything because they couldn't get a shot off...which is a huge credit to UC's defense. I think they had 4 FG's in the final 8 minutes and 7 turnovers. UC's defense really clamped down.

G-town shoots such a high percentage because their bigs really pass the ball well. Sims, their Center, has something like 58 assist heading into the game. When the guards are cutting, and getting passes down low for easy layups, they are going to shoot a high percentage, but those plays take nearly all of the shot clock to develope.

Once UC got within range, and locked down on them, it was advantage cats, because it forced G-town to try and move the ball a lot quicker, and score without passing the ball down low. Gates did a great job of deflecting passes down low, and several of those ended up in the hands of the guards for UC.

You are right about the 3-pointer. I wasn't even shocked it went in. That's been happening at UC since Lenny Brown.

Gtown scored a lot when UC attempted to play the zone D. Which they obviously can't do.

Gtown scored a lot when UC attempted to play the zone D. Which they obviously can't do.

What did work well was when they started switching between man and zone in the same offensive possesion for G-town. Thompson talked about that in the post game quotes. Said that what got them late was that UC started switching in and out of man/zone, and it was confusing his players a bit, as they were trying to run sets for one specific defense, and then UC would go and switch it up.

Als, I think UC's frantic style wore down G-town. Cronin has done a really good job of getting his Freshman to play at a high enough level that each one of them can contribute off the bench and run that pressing style of defense, keeping everyone fresh.

These slow starts are going to doom UK when they get into the tourney. Other teams are going to be able to rebound and hang with them. The freshman have to realize that it's a 40 minute game...they can't just decide to wait until the 2nd hafl to want to play and win.

Overall, though, UK looking good.
