There's ways to manipulate it.. like taxes. Screamin, you were the one I believe on this forum saying we had to move on from Geno and we're in cap hell and we can't do anything... well, now even with the Darnold signing we have one of the highest cap spaces in the NFL.

Yes, void years catch up... and yah, something like what the Browns did with Watson is a bit ridiculous. But it's a tool available, and if you believe your window is now, you go for it and plan a rebuild. Seattle is in a rebuild, and we're cutting ties with void years and resetting, that's fine. And Sam Darnold is hardly a hinderance to any plan. I would not be shocked if Seattle drafts a QB this year and Matt Flynn's Darnold to be honest in 2026.

Yes now we have lots of room just like i figured would happen IF we got out from under these overpaid under performing players. If Geno, DK, Lockett and all the other guys released were still here like many wanted to keep would we have all this cap space? No. Like it or not it was Geno and DK's contracts and even locketts that had our Hands tied and I believe they all had contracts that included void years. Your better off backloading a contract in my eyes but this is 100% dependent on the position of the cap space for me. Make it work with out adding void years. You can always work the numbers around to make it work, a void year just says we couldnt make it work because we were lazy so we will try it again later with even more money on the table a few years from now lol.

Mmm I don't think DK had void years, I also don't think Geno did. We got nailed with the cap hit because of Geno's incentives. Lockett I'm pretty sure we hit void years on. Either way, it's nice to clear the books.

Again, it's a tool you can use. The issue is when you're using void years on players that really just aren't that big of an impact. And IMO, DK/Geno/Tyler are not impact players at this point and time in the league.

Now that being said, I hope Tyler resigns with us for like a 2 year $12M deal.

What about signing Cooper Kupp if the Rams release him? We need WR's and i saw NOTHING in Kupps game that said he was done. He wasnt ever a speed guy he is a technical guy with good hands. Resign Lockett to a team friendly deal and pick up Kupp and you have a VERY good WR core again. Yes lol you would need to start thinking about getting some young guys in here also this year or next year.
Cupp is a strong possibility imo. Great blocker, from eastern wa, and oh yeah, he can still play the position well. Definitely on the decline but would be a great complement to JSN and any young receiver we draft…

Again, wide receivers are readily available all the time. I get you're not getting a Justin Jefferson type.. but these guys are serviceable and bring experience. And this class is fairly deep at WR in the mid rounds. This was a fine time to trade DK. Yes you DO need another WR, and let's not forget Lockett may return.

I would've graded Seattle an auto F if we signed him to a 5 year $150M deal. I'll give an F to Pittsburgh if they do that (which seems to be the report).

Lockett is a #3 wr at this stage of his career… nothing more. He’s also not a good blocker at his position. JSN is worse as a blocker. I’d be surprised if both are on the team among our top 3 wrs. Blocking from the WR position is something Kubiak has emphasized as a need

Lockett is a #3.#4 wr at this stage of his career…

Right.. which is why he was released (everyone with an IQ above 90 knew this was happening) and would resign with Seattle for at max about $6M per to be a good locker room guy (which he is) and help a bit on the field.

Lockett is not a #2 solution, and nobody expects him to be. I mean one could even argue $12M (what I previously said, 2 year $6M per so $12M) is too much. That said, he's a good locker room guy and vet that can help younger drafted guys (and we do need to draft a WR, not necessarily #1 overall, I wouldn't mind spending a 2nd or 3rd - now that we have two - on one though) develop and guys like JSN to continue to develop. That's all I'm saying.

You're 100% right end of day. Lockett is a #3 or #4... but he'd like to stay in Seattle, he knew he'd be released... and hey, the guy can still make some plays here and there. Worth $5M or so a year to have a veteran receiver on the team. And there's going to be no guaranteed with that... it's a freebie if wants to be here, which he clearly indicated and the organization understands that. Seattle may be ready to move on... I don't have routine phone calls with the Seattle FO, but that's fine too.

Rams will release Kupp on Wednesday. Sign Kupp and bring back TL, I'd be for it.

Bring back some vets that have GOOD route running to help a QB that frankly requires it... I would love a Kupp/Lockett combo for a combined $10M cap hit... (what we saved from DK).

I don't expect more than 30-40 snaps from those guys per game.. so you still need to draft someone (great we have ammo for it, the mid rounds are good) but it's a good bridge to the future.

I also fully expect Seattle to draft a QB, so now is the time to bring in crisp route runners to help him along. TL and Kupp are the definition of that (DK is not - hence his trade). You guys remember Michael Crabtree? Great talent, horrible route runner... look where that went.

I do expect they draft a couple of WRs during the 2nd or 3rd round plus a later round.
