There's ways to manipulate it.. like taxes. Screamin, you were the one I believe on this forum saying we had to move on from Geno and we're in cap hell and we can't do anything... well, now even with the Darnold signing we have one of the highest cap spaces in the NFL.
Yes, void years catch up... and yah, something like what the Browns did with Watson is a bit ridiculous. But it's a tool available, and if you believe your window is now, you go for it and plan a rebuild. Seattle is in a rebuild, and we're cutting ties with void years and resetting, that's fine. And Sam Darnold is hardly a hinderance to any plan. I would not be shocked if Seattle drafts a QB this year and Matt Flynn's Darnold to be honest in 2026.
Yes now we have lots of room just like i figured would happen IF we got out from under these overpaid under performing players. If Geno, DK, Lockett and all the other guys released were still here like many wanted to keep would we have all this cap space? No. Like it or not it was Geno and DK's contracts and even locketts that had our Hands tied and I believe they all had contracts that included void years. Your better off backloading a contract in my eyes but this is 100% dependent on the position of the cap space for me. Make it work with out adding void years. You can always work the numbers around to make it work, a void year just says we couldnt make it work because we were lazy so we will try it again later with even more money on the table a few years from now lol.
