When I was young I smoked a lot...often.
I feel as though I would have been much more successful if I had not smoked as much when I was an adolescent. I am against recreational use. I think even if it's not as addictive as other drugs, it's a crutch.
A crutch, how so? Most people I know that smoke it do so just to chill. No different than a cold beer, or rum and coke at the end of the day.

I was thinking reactionary and I agree I think it's inherent in all humans sort of Fight or Flight even though a weaker person may flee based on common sense I do believe he would want to fight. I think about all the wars, and street fight, road rage, etc humans are just a violent mostly shitty species
I disagree. Any idea what a praying mantis' first meal is? A sibling. They have an instinct in line with their prey. They are hard to find in nature but I accidently discovered a way to get them to show themselves. I was growing wheat grass (Why was I doing that?, A different story) and all of a sudden I see a preying mantis just hanging out. Then the few other times I did it a praying mantis always showed up.

But why? They are meat eaters. They knew where the best eats for their prey was and showed up to hunt. They had no way of knowing I'd put a tray out and all likelihood never came across wheat grass before... and I live in a neighborhood where all other types of grass were readily available. Again they knew the best eats would also find it.

But I do agree man has few limits when it comes to achieving a self interest. Just not the shittiest species. How about gypsy moths, locust, et cetera. These things will eat everything in site until nothing is left, then starve.

I agree with both but lean a bit toward YR. There's a point we need to hold people accountable for their own actions. I think booze is more problematic than pot and even with alcoholism there a "functioning" concept. And, not all addictions are the same where food is addictive and I don't foresee a ban on that any time soon. Truly dysfunctionally addictive drugs are in a way different category where it's next to impossible to maintain a functional addiction with cocaine (crack especially), crystal meth and any opioid.

While any addiction has a potential to destroy lives, crack, meth and opioids are almost guaranteed to destroy the live of whoever is its prey as well as anyone connected to them.

Some people can have a rum and coke, or not. Some people can have a rum and coke every night and then not.
Others HAVE to have that rum and coke. Yes, others will need to binge until blackout and pass out.
Same with weed. Some can puff puff pass when they attend the 1 or 2 concerts they go to, others NEED to blow a doobie every night. Or they cannot socialize with others without first getting high. They cannot chill without it. Crutch.
Yes, those people are the ones with an addictive personality, and it would be something regardless.
But if guy #1 cannot socialize with Captain Morgan's and Coke, he's an alky, and yet if guy #2 cannot socialize with some herb, he's just chill.

I agree.
But I also see weed as a gateway drug. The mind altering effects lead some people to try other mind altering drugs. Not all but some.
If there were no other drugs in this world I would be ok with it, but that is not reality.
And, like any street drug, it is so easy for it to be laced with PCP or Fentanyl etc. in order to make it addictive.

Well I did not say they were the shittiest species just a shitty species. We have seen men kill, r*pe babies, ****** children, burn children and adults, try to extinct a religion of people, so as far as shitty I feel we represent pretty darn well.

We cannot assume people cannot I feel most choose not and there is a difference. I feel if someone is buying a half ounce of weed a week than yeah I see them as having a problem, much like the person that buys 5 bottles of rum a week he has a problem. We can assign the titles Alchy, Addict, Drunk, head what ever but in the end I feel it's a personal choice perhaps tied to a mental weakness or deficiency

Again I don't disagree, I just think many many people use it and only a few go through the gate. Where do we draw the line when considering man has used substances since man stood upright? I know this: I comfortable drawing a line before the harder drugs without any qualms.

I have an interview for a job this afternoon. I know I'm going to nail it but am a little nervous. I'm drinking green tea for it's calming influence. Should I man up and just say to myself "man up, you got this" or is it okay I look at green tea and say "8 other benefits without any drawbacks"? Of course this question is just hyperbole... but back to the gateway thing... some items present a gate, others pull you through.

Either way we got some work to do. People and the media spread despair instead of hope, and now generations are raised thinking the world is one messed up place so they get defensive super fast IMO. It's almost as if people can't say " You know what I respect your opinion, I don't agree with but I respect it, let's just leave it at that".

All true except tons of opinions out there aren't worth respecting. I don't mean you believe in something different than me, therefore... I mean people are out there not actually knowing what is is they are believing in and are fighting to defend it.

We all need to ingest some fiber once in a while and clean ourselves of all that excess baggage.
I so wanted to throw the poop emoji at that one but don't want the intent of that emoji confused.

Several generations now have been led to believe that if you are sincere then it is true for you.
I never ran with the crowd. If it's bullshit, it's bullshit - whether you believe it or not.

Smart man. How about for those who aren't smart? Even worse, how about for those who aren't smart but think they are, for they are the dangerous ones.

A smart man can be smart. But someone who thinks they are smart has to cover up the fact that they are not, and think their actions doing so are smart. I think our biggest problem is three fold: first, we don't have enough smart people; second, we have too many people who think they are smart taking undermining actions; third, the remaining people can't tell the difference.

Do you feel apps like Youtube, Instagram and Tic Toc are breaking down the moral fiber of today's youth?

I do I see kids doing things in very public forums that are morally questionable. What I don't know is how parents can real this in or even if some of them care too.

My wife says that the reason that the world is where it's at is because the smartest people want nothing to do with politics and try to do something else to improve the situation from outside. Those that think they are smart get too much power and can never do the job, yet so many people are fooled, those people in power continually do stupid things.

Absolutely not. It's pretty much a youth's job to do their best to breakdown every bit of moral fiber they have until they learn the purpose of moral fiber... on their own. The forums you mention only make the process more efficient.

Sex, drugs and rock & roll, anyone ever heard the phrase? I think it was coined sometime after social media was introduced.

LOL Yeah I think we all know the phrase but we all knew there were limits too, not sure those limits apply anymore
