If you're required to turn that in, then pass a rigid screening process before getting it back, would you pass it? I'm not at all against you having that weapon. That adage goes "If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns". How do we ensure good guys have guns and outlaws don't, or at least greatly minimize it.
Yeah, I would pass.
No, they can't take it from me, then perform a background check on me.
As I have said before, Give me a combination 50 state Concealed Carry Permit/Weapons Purchasing ID card and back ground check me yearly. I don't care. I'm good.

Very simple. We need to get the good guys to take the guns from the bad guys!

Should we get rid of the months? We have Black History Month which I think started it all off, then Hispanic American Month, Gay Pride, Nurses, Asian Pacific American Month, etc etc etc. Get rid of them all I say can't have equality when promoting inequity.
It doesn't need to be months. A week, maybe, but months?

Being from Boston, I thought the most significant times of the year that made people really and honestly happy were the Italian food festivals, St. Patrick's Day, and Halloween. Sorry, Christmas is already a commercialized celebration of shopping. Fuck that.

Here in Delaware, bars on St. Patrick's Day have bands that play John Denver tunes, and generally not very well. If we're going to celebrate something, celebrate it positively. Don't make it a somber occasion where people expect a test afterwards.

That was a hypothetical question so it could apply to you.

Hypothetically, no, they can't have it for the sole purpose of redetermining my mental status or criminal history without a reason, such as an active restraining order or pending court appearances for felonious activities.

Now where getting somewhere... We have a list of reasons why a right to bear arms should be revoked from certain individuals. With more time we probably could agree (or compromise) on a more comprehensive list.

What's greatly misunderstood is the term "People". Colloquially it's multiple individuals, but the correct definition is a category of individuals. What does that mean? It means you can put conditions on individuals without it denying the people. No individual has a right to bear arms if the group as a whole can bear arms. However, there's a tipping point where too many conditions would obstruct the group.

Seriously, you and I are ironing this out on a message board. Why can't our politicians? Because they have money put into their pockets by those that want to sell guns without any restrictions (I don't see the right to sell arms in the constitution) and those who should be excluded from bearing arms (truly extremist groups).

Not sure where we had to get...

It's not just politicians and their desire to be paid. There are many in this country who believe in the "Shall not be infringed" part and see red flag laws as a way to disarm people one at a time. As soon as Red Flag Laws are enacted some will lose their right to own firearms, then the laws will be amended and others will lose that right. And so on.
So many people believe that the government would never do that.
Do you believe that the government never helped facilitate the importation of cocaine in the 70's and 80's? Do you believe that the Government never experimented with LSD? Do you believe that the government never mistreated black men for syphilis? Can you trust your government completely and unabashedly?

We should defund the police because they are killers....but no law abiding citizen needs a gun because the police will protect us.

Even though the Supreme Court has said on numerous times that cops do not have the duty to protect.

We (as in you and me) never need to get anywhere because we substantially agree the issue with guns isn't all or nothing. You want to own a gun many want banned. I don't want to own a gun at all. We both agree guns can be held by responsible persons without much harm for the greater good. We also agree there should be reasonable measures to ensure ownership is limited to responsible owners.

I completely agree with your "trust" analysis. I do trust the current sentiment on gun control isn't a government end-around to disarm us. I don't trust that the government will never attempt that in the future (and I stated that in another response).

How seriously do you take your carbon foot print? What measures do you take if any to be more environmentally responsible?

I think I make efforts could do better.

1. Drive responsible cars
2. Insulated attic
3. Installed energy efficient windows
4. Tankless water heater.
5. Will go solar in a few years.
6. Shower heads have trickle feature so I can slow flow while soaping up

Seriously other than the furnace my house is buttoned up good. Vehicles tuned and tires aired up. From light bulbs to insulation all good, bring lunch to work and only joyride on the motorcycle.
House is 1200' so my carbon foot print is small.
Trying to avoid poverty is a strong movater to keep the bills low.

And actually it's all about a lot of people doing the little things. Like LED bulbs, and tire pressure. We have always tried to do one energy upgrade per year. Just what we do and it does save money. My power company has raised rates about 10 to 12 times since we bought the house 29 years ago. Our bill remains around $250 per month the neighbors are close to $400.00 per month. I went in to pay the bill one time the lady said wow that's a pretty low bill, I told her it's average because I always try to do energy upgrades. She then asked if I would like to be in one of their commercials. Of course I said no.

  1. I have solar panels and an electric car
  2. I avoid AC unless it's moderately uncomfortable (aka wife bitches)
  3. I shower in the basement bathroom to be closer to the hot water and reduce hot water wasted in pipes
  4. I have smart thermostats kept down to 50 at night, then maintain around 67 through the day
  5. I have a smart plug on the hot water to keep it off except early to mid-morning
  6. I have good windows and good insulation which limits drafts allowing that 67 to feel warmer (it really does)
I'll let you decide whether I watch my carbon footprint or am a generic cheap motherfucker

My problem is my wife is disabled and home alone with the thermostat while I'm working.

It can be both. And programmable thermostats are a great idea if you're not home a lot. My new A/C has that I like it.
